Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position |
This is a full-time Postdoc position that will lead an applied research and extension project focused on advancing climate-resilient agriculture through improved soil health, cover cropping systems, and bioeconomy development. The Postdoc will take a leading role in designing, developing, and implementing demonstration and on-farm projects that promote sustainable and climate-smart practices, including cover crops and innovative biorefinery systems, while providing training and resources to small-scale and underserved farmers. Responsibilities include organizing field days, stakeholder workshops, curriculum development, program evaluation, peer-reviewed publications, provide support in project report. With study locations in the Southeast and Midwest, the position aims to integrate research and outreach to enhance agricultural resilience, support sustainable bioeconomy initiatives, and improve soil health in diverse farming systems.
The project is funded by
USDA
AFRI Bioeconomy Grant. The successful candidate needs to have knowledge and skills in data management, data integration, computer programming, and some understanding of machine learning.

The basis mission of the Cooperative Extension Service at NC A&T State University and NC State University is to extend the application of research-generated knowledge of a coordinated Cooperative Extension system in North Carolina and to bridge existing gaps so that all farmers, homemakers, families, youth and communities might acquire the practical knowledge and life skills needed to improve the quality of their lives. Educational assistance is offered in four broad areas; agriculture and natural resources, home economics, 4-H and youth development, community and rural development. Extension specialist on campus provide training and technical assistance to Extension agents and paraprofessionals working in the counties. These county personnel work one-on one with the families and individuals in the various programs. The A&T Cooperative Extension Program provides educational programs for limited-resource families and individuals in about one-third of North Carolina counties. |
Minimum Requirements |
The employee will have already acquired a Ph.D., or All But Dissertation, or equivalent acceptable degree and should be able to exercise scientific judgment on a day-to-day basis. The employee will evaluate incoming information in the form of experimental data and observations, written literature documentation, oral communications and presentation, and will use this information to make judgments about what steps will next lead to progress in the project. |
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education |
1. Ph.D. awarded in the area of soil sciences, crop sciences, environmental sciences, agricultural ecology and/or related disciplines that fits within the scope of the duties and responsibilities.
2. A strong background in handling interdisciplinary approach of soil health, climate-smart agriculture and socio-economic aspects of climate-resilient farming. This will include but not limited to in-depth training, data wrangling, computer programming, computational application, meta-analysis approach, mentoring other team members.
3. Develop program in the areas such as Environmental quality/soil health, best management practices/regenerative practices, modeling and computer programming and integrated social-economic-environmental impact of climate-smart agriculture. |
