The New York City Department of Investigation (DOI) is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the country with a mission of combating municipal corruption. It serves the people of New York City by acting as an independent and nonpartisan watchdog for New York City government, City agencies, and City employees, vendors with City contracts, individuals and entities that receive City funds. Minimum Qualifications 1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in an industrial or governmental agency in the field of investigation, auditing, law enforcement, security, inspections, or in a major operational area of the agency in which the appointment is to be made; or Preferred Skills
1. A master's degree from an accredited college in the following: economics, finance, accounting, business or statistics, or a closely related field. 2. Accounting degree, CFE, and/or CPA certification. 3. Three years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one or a combination of the following: working with the budget of large public or private company in budget administration, accounting, economic or financial administration or fiscal or economic research in management or methods analysis, operations research, organizational research or program evaluation, in personnel or public administration. 4. Experience supervising other auditors. 5. Knowledge of, and demonstrated interest in, construction, law enforcement and/or criminal justice. 6. Relationship-builder with strong interpersonal skills who effectively conveys information verbally and in writing. 7. Highly analytical thinker with demonstrated talent for identifying, scrutinizing, improving, and streamlining complex work processes. 8.Demonstrated proficiency in Excel. 9.Knowledge of/ability to utilize data analytics platforms and/or auditing software. 10.Familiarity with New York City a plus. 11.Candidate must possess a valid New York State Driver's License. New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment however, New York City residency is NOT required for this position. Candidates may reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview. The selected candidate may choose to work at either DOI's New York City office at 180 Maiden Lane or DOI's satellite location in Marlboro, New York, but may be required to report to the other location as needed.
