PT Grant-Funded Tutor/Mentor - North Campus

Description:



  • Assist program participants (one one-on-one, and in groups) with homework assignments in one, or more of the following HIGH SCHOOL subjects: math (algebra through calculus), science (chemistry, biology, anatomy, physics, geology), language arts (writing-reading), or social science (history, government, geography.
  • Conduct workshops or study groups to enhance participant understanding in one of the subject areas noted in #1 above.



  • Assist program instructional team with in-class learning activities, group work, additional or supplemental instruction to assist participant learning.


  • Maintain a regular work schedule of evenings (4-7 p.m.) and weekends (Sat. 7:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.) during the academic year, and a summer weekly schedule (Mon. thru Fri. 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. [slightly later during field trips]).


  • Accompany and assist full-time professional staff (Director, Coordinator) during participant field trips to educational events, cultural events, and visits to area and out-of-town colleges and universities.


  • Provide documentation weekly on students assisted for inclusion in the student record.


  • Other duties as assigned related to promoting the learning objective of program participants.

Qualifications:


  • Be enrolled at San Jacinto College or another university.


  • Grade point average of 3.0 or higher.


  • Previous tutoring experience preferred.
  • Qualities of integrity, dignity, and cordiality, ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with groups as well as individuals.
