Columbia University in the City of New York: The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science: Electrical Engineering Location 01 Open Date Oct 23, 2024 Salary Range or Pay Grade $78,155 Description The Genomics Information Systems Laboratory of Prof. Dimitris Anastassiou (https://engineering.columbia.edu/faculty/dimitris-anastassiou) in the Department of Electrical Engineering has openings for Associate Research Scientists in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics with highly competitive salaries (the posted salary is the minimum for the grade but the final salary amount will be based on the candidate's qualifications). The lab is also affiliated with Columbia University's Department of Systems Biology. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or related fields, and strong experience and publication record in Computational Systems Biology and Bioinformatics. The research will involve algorithm development and computational analysis of biomolecular information, using both traditional and newly developed methods, to discover and elucidate important biological mechanisms building and expanding on existing results. It will also involve collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and experimental research labs to validate computational results. One current research focus is on analyzing the increasingly available single-cell and spatial data from cancer biopsies investigating the cellular composition and evolution of cellular populations including cancer cells as well as fibroblasts and immune cells in the tumor microenvironment, shedding light on cancer invasiveness-associated mechanisms and identifying potential therapeutic targets.
