Job Summary

This position is responsible for the reliable and safe operation of the electrical system and essential equipment within the service area. Operations Supervisors supervise crews to assure work is coordinated and completed safely, efficiently and on schedule. Operations Supervisors ensure compliance with safety rules, Company policies and procedures, as well as job specifications and regulatory standards. Operations Supervisors provide leadership to their crews, utilizing departmental background, interpersonal skills, coaching skills, and technical expertise.


Essential Functions

  • Under the direction of a manager, coordinate the daily activities of assigned crew(s).
  • Prioritize, schedule, and assign work to achieve business goals. Ensure tailboard meetings are held and are effective.
  • Safeguard self as well as fellow workers and the public in the course and scope of business by following safety rules set forth in the Company'sAccident Prevention Manual. Assure that safety meetings are held regularly and effectively.
  • Address unsafe practices or situations and take appropriate action.
  • Coordinate between various CenterPoint Energy (CNP) departments and various external agencies to assure timely completion of work and provide technical expertise as needed.
  • Set the standard for crews regarding customer service.
  • Administer company policy within area work groups.
  • Manage employee performance, encourage, motivate, coach, train, hold subordinates accountable and resolve employee conflicts.
  • Manage resources including budget, equipment, tools, and instruments.
  • Personally exhibit behavior consistent with all Company values, policies, and procedures.
  • Comply and support the Company, its management, and policies.
  • Assure the effective and efficient procurement, distribution, and use of materials for the crew(s) and maintain effective records of such.
  • Monitor, maintain, and update manual and computerized work management records, assuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Audit field personnel by visually monitoring work progress and ensure correct procedures are followed on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that applicable employee personnel files are maintained with performance documentation as appropriate.
  • Prepare and deliver both formal and informal oral and written communications related to service area activities.
  • Represent the Division/Department or company on internal work teams and with external parties as required.
  • Maintain proper working relationships with management, co-workers, and customers.
  • Research issues and facilitate work orders. This may include securing access, obtaining permits, verifying security clearances, etc.
  • Schedule outages as required.
  • Maintain a regular and reliable level of attendance. Set the example for the crew.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of bargaining unit agreement.



Education Description

  • Requires a high school education or the equivalent knowledge and sixty (60) hours of college level courses in electrical and/or electronics engineering/technology or related technical discipline. In lieu of college hours, may substitute two (2) years of electric utility or military work experience.



Experience

  • Requires a minimum of five (5) years as a Journeyman Line Worker
  • Requires a minimum of two (2) years of leadership experience.
  • Must have consistent success in relief Operations Supervisor role in the past.


Physical Requirements

  • Able to exert more than 30 pounds of force occasionally and more than 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
  • Able to bend, lift/carry, climb, crouch, reach, squat and sit for long periods of time.
  • Able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Able to view computer terminal for extended periods of time.
  • Able to demonstrate manual dexterity to operate a personal computer.
  • Able to operate copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other office equipment.
  • Able to work a varied schedule with projects and deadlines requiring the ability to meet changing demands.
  • Able to operate and drive a motor vehicle.
  • Able to conduct frequent field job site inspections to various locations and in all weather conditions.
  • Able to respond to emergency call outs at any time day or night.
  • Active participate during an EOP event


Working Conditions

  • May be assigned and reassigned a work shift and location at the Company's discretion.
  • Able to provide on-call support 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.
  • Able to wear personal protection safety equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, protective footwear, and ear plugs, occasionally.
  • Able to work indoors, in an office environment and work outdoors near rotating and energized equipment, or hazardous materials.
  • Able to respond to emergency calls and/or callouts and return to work while off duty.
  • Assignment may include a mutual assistance assignment outside CNP's normal service area.
  • May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts.
