Director of IT Infrastructure Operations


Job Summary

The Director of IT Infrastructure Operations is responsible for directing the strategy and execution of the IT infrastructure unit. The position oversees information technology platforms through staff and utilization of Managed Service/Cloud Providers to ensure the health of all hardware, software, servers, desktop and server operating systems, software systems administration, systems access, and IT Service Management remain up to standards. This role provides technical leadership where needed and develops short- and long-term technical and operating plans, budgets, resource requirements and capital needs for continuous improvement of service levels.


Essential Functions
Key Duties/Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Directs, leads and oversees staff in accomplishing work objectives within the unit(s). Coaches, motivates, rewards and recognizes subordinates. Sets clear goals, objectives and performance expectations and holds employees accountable for achieving results.
  • Collaborates across organization to identify infrastructure needs, establish and adhere to agreed-upon priorities to achieve results that meet expectations based on measurable outcomes within budget and established time frame.
  • Researches new technologies, making recommendations to senior management, forecasting future needs/capacity planning, and participating in the strategic planning/evolution of the company's internal and outsourced systems, security and business continuity requirements that are scalable to meet the company's growth expectations.
  • Responsible for leading the design and implementation of infrastructure requirements and enhancements required to support and enhance existing infrastructure systems. Drives efficiency while leveraging automation and innovation to scale to support business needs.
  • Directs the selection, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of information technology infrastructure and telecommunications systems; including management & monitoring solutions, backup & recovery technologies, hardware and software contracts to ensure alignment with strategic goals and organizational priorities.
  • Develops information technology strategies, policies, and procedures by evaluating the organization's strategy and ensures goal alignment. Identifies problems, evaluates trends, and drive resolutions while anticipating necessary requirements. Engages with the business to define business requirements to recommend and develop infrastructure solutions.
  • Leads budget management activities including annual budget preparation, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, plus initiating corrective action and capacity planning to ensure budget adherence for effectiveness and alignment with the organization's short- and long-range strategies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field or equivalent education and experience as determined by HR
  • 8 years' experience in an Infrastructure role which demonstrates a specialized technical knowledge at an independent level is required, of which 5 years of supervisory/staff leadership experience
  • Advanced level of staff leadership, technical/professional knowledge and skills, decision making, analytical thinking, communication, and negotiation skills


Preferred Qualifications
Above requirements and the following:

  • Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
  • 10 years' experience in an Infrastructure role which demonstrates a specialized technical knowledge at an independent level, of which 5 years supervisory/staff leadership experience
  • Leadership experience within an IT environment
