Position Description:

Purpose

Serve as the institutions' student ADA Coordinator, managing the accommodation process, reviewing, and interpreting documentation that substantiates disabilities, facilitating accommodation services, conducting intake interviews, and determining eligibility for services and appropriate accommodations for students with faculty for classroom modifications.

Primary Functions

Develops, implements, and maintains services that may include, but not limited to:

  • Conducts intake interviews with students and disability eligibility analyses for students interested in obtaining accommodations for a disability. Evaluate disability documentation from qualified professionals and additional health and academic information to assess eligibility for disability services.
  • Collaborates with school Deans, principal investigators, student affairs, curriculum, diversity and exam teams to determine reasonable accommodations based on technical standards of the program, lab requirements and student's intake and assessment. Approves and maintains documentation in appropriate systems.
  • Meets with students who have approved accommodations (e.g., every six months) to assess applicability and needed adjustments or changes. Updates records as needed and coordinates changes with the appropriate individuals.
  • Coordinates and arranges for the provision of support services, accommodations, and academic adjustments (e.g., testing accommodations) for students with disabilities to ensure access to instruction, services, programs, and activities for individual students to receive and access support needs. Provide referrals, accommodations, and connect students with services to support their academic goals.
  • Maintains confidential student data, accommodation documentation (including short-term illnesses and injuries), and related records for disabled students, ensuring secure storage and privileged communications practices to comply with FERPA and ADA confidentiality laws.
  • Provides consultation, support, and professional development to faculty, staff, and administrators on issues and concerns regarding access, rights of students, and ways of providing reasonable accommodations.
  • Serves in an advisory capacity to departments and committees to provide advice and insight on issues such as creating more accessible classrooms, instructional technology, and student communications ensuring compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and Web Content Accessibility best practices.
  • Works closely with the Office of Student Inclusion and Diversity to de-stigmatize disabilities and to promote community and social justice work among students.
  • Ensures equity of services across all MCW schools, programs, and campuses; Ensure equitable review and decision process among all MCW students seeking accommodations.
  • Serves as an effective liaison among MCW students, Academic Affairs, MCW Legal Counsel, and relevant Human Resource component, as necessary.
  • Increases the visibility and awareness of disability services and enhances the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of accessibility services and accommodations on all campuses and promotes a positive, student-centered, success-oriented atmosphere.
  • Participates on assigned committees as well as university-wide initiatives to promote services and foster an environment supportive of the target population.
  • Serves as a proctor or facilitator of accommodations as needed.
  • Participates in professional organizations and professional development activities.
  • Consults with MCW's Office of General Counsel, professional organizations, and federal ADA technical support centers on issues of accessibility and accommodation to maintain compliance in a changing legal landscape.
  • Collaborates with MCW Public Safety and appropriate staff regarding evacuation plans, areas of rescue, and active shooter protocols for students with disabilities to ensure the safety of students requiring special considerations.
  • Oversees the coordination of testing accommodations with students. Assists students in working with third-party testing entities to facilitate accommodation requests for State and National tests (i.e., USMLE).
  • Provide requested and regular reports to demonstrate effectiveness and satisfaction with services from perspectives of varied stakeholders.




Preferred Schedule:




Full-time role with expectations for coverage during core business hours and flexibility required as necessary to accommodate business needs.



Position Requirements:

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities

  • Deep knowledge of the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as it relates to reasonable accommodations, best practices, and ability to interpret testing and documentation of disability to determine appropriate accommodations to support students with disabilities in a higher education setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
  • Strong organizational and critical thinking skills.

Specifications

  • Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum Required Experience: 5 years
  • Preferred Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in disability studies, special education, psychology, counseling, student services, educational counseling, counseling, student services, or related field.
  • Required Experience: Higher education and disability accommodations and services that include experience with graduate, and professional students in higher education. Disability services, advising, assessment, or related field and prior experience training. Management experience in the development and administration of programs for students with disabilities at the post-secondary level preferred.

    • You will coordinate with MCW's three campuses, working with Deans and faculty across programs to align accommodations with academic standards and student needs. Your work will also involve liaising with student groups to gather feedback and improve services.

    • As the inaugural Student Accommodations Manager, you'll navigate institutional changes and build a comprehensive support system. You'll address gaps in existing processes and help foster a more inclusive learning environment for all students.
