Position description

UCLA Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences (EPSS) seeks applications for a temporary lecturer position in the area of Geology for the Spring 2025 Quarter. Responsibilities will include lecturing, designing and developing laboratory exercises, conducting regularly scheduled office hours, writing and grading exams and problem sets, and training and supervising teaching assistants for a course in the evolution and extinction of dinosaurs.

This course is a general education introductory course to the exploration of biology, evolution, and extinction of dinosaurs and close relatives. The course will provide a basic understanding of plate tectonics, dinosaur biology, evolution, and extinction. Lab sections with demonstrations accompany lectures.

Qualified candidates will have a Ph.D. in Geology or equivalent discipline. Experience in teaching and/or practicing Geology with a field component at the college level is required. Experience in teaching general education courses similar to those offered by EPSS are strongly preferred.

Basic qualifications

Ph.D. in Geology or equivalent discipline.

Experience in teaching and/or practicing Geology with a field component at the college level.
