Description

If you're an outgoing book-lover looking for a unique part-time opportunity, join West Allis Public Library as Part Time Library Assistant. Provide prompt and courteous phone and in-person service to library patrons and assist patrons with computer usage at the library. Create and maintain displays throughout the library and work collaboratively with library staff to support operations and further the library's mission to foster an educated, engaged, and enriched community. Bring your passion for books and love of service to our team!

12-18 hours per week during Library Hours: (M-Th:9:30-8:30, F-Sa: 9:30-5:30, Su: 1-5)


Examples of Duties

  • Reference Assistance (both Adult and Children's departments)
  • Provide prompt, courteous phone and in-person service to patrons to meet their needs including research assistance, readers advisory, placing, finding and retrieving holds.
  • Computer Assistance
  • Provide basic assistance for patrons needing help with email, job searching and applying, printing, etc.
  • troubleshoot any issues with computer or printers that arise.
  • Program Assistance-Assist librarians in preparation for and management of programs, including Summer and Winter Reading programs, adult, teen and children's programs.
  • Library Displays - create and maintain library material displays throughout the library.
  • Other duties/projects may be assigned by librarian such as pulling books, creating book lists, shelving assistance, etc.

Qualifications

* Bachelors Degree required
* 2-3 years of recent administrative support work experience including extensive customer service interaction, and cash handling in the large public organization or equivalent.
* Ability to enter data and utilize software in accordance with the needs of the department. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs, and Adobe Acrobat.
* Advanced skills in English grammar/writing and math. Experience working with groups of people from diverse backgrounds.
