JOB DESCRIPTION Network Engineer provides the technical delivery consulting role in the Infrastructure and Application Delivery lifecycles from detailed design, integration, maintenance, and upgrades of network hardware, software, and standards across the enterprise as it relates to the OSUMC on-perm and cloud network. The Network Engineer defines and follows discrete procedures and protocols to ensure network integrity and compliance, and monitors network utilization, user functions, and performance metrics as required. The Network Engineer analyzes project requirements and solution designs to assure that the network is functionally appropriate, technically valid, and well-integrated with on-perm and cloud in accordance with the security, business user requirements, methods, and standards throughout the project life cycle.
- The Network Engineer will design robust and scalable network solutions with a long-term vision, ensuring they align with business objectives and meet the organization's needs while ensuring security, performance, and reliability.
- Designing LANs, WANs, data center networks, wireless networks, and hybrid cloud networks. Document network flows, configurations, diagrams, and procedures to ensure consistency and facilitate knowledge transfer. Adhere to industry standards and best practices in network design.
- Based on the design requirements, choose appropriate networking protocols and technologies. This may involve selecting routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP), switching protocols (e.g., VLANs, STP), and network hardware (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls).
- Provide guidance to Implement techniques such as network segmentation, access control lists (ACLs), encryption, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and security policies.
- Seamless integration of the network infrastructure with other IT systems and services, such as servers, storage, virtualization platforms, and cloud services.
- Executes the network leaderships vision and research industry trends and modern technologies to proactively identify opportunities to innovate and improve the quality of the network portfolio
- Pursues methods for increased efficiency, using network automation principles along with software vendor APIs and custom scripting/programming to develop new practices and processes that alleviate the team from manually completing repeatable tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in computer science, information technology, system analysis, related study, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of six years of design and implementation experience in IT, with deep knowledge in the following (or similar) technical disciplines: infrastructure and network design, and security.
- Good understanding of project management, agile principles, and development methodologies; and capability of supporting agile teams by providing advice and guidance on opportunities, impact, and risks, considering technical and architectural debt.
- Experience delivering presentations to senior-level executives and technical audiences.
- Exposure to diverse technical configurations, technologies, and processing environments.
- Skilled at collaborating with SMEs and business owners, following the guidelines, and facilitating decision-making with stakeholders and peers.
