How you make a difference in this role:

The Physician will achieve the Tennessee Department of Health's mission of protecting, promoting, and improving the health and well-being of all people in Tennessee by providing adult primary care services to uninsured patients and women's health/family planning services at the Washington County Health Department.

Job Overview:

The Physician will provide adult primary care services to uninsured patients and women's health/family planning services at the Washington County Health Department. This position precepts and performs chart review for Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs). This is a permanent, full-time state position with the Tennessee Department of Health. We do not prescribe controlled substances.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering direct patient care to uninsured adults.
  • Precepting of and performing chart review for APNs.
  • Providing consultation for health department nursing staff.
  • Following health department guidelines, protocols, and program recommendations.
  • Holding and maintaining a valid, unrestricted Tennessee medical license.
  • Following professional development directives from the TN Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Participating in county and regional based activities as requested by county and regional supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Hold a current medical license to practice in the State of Tennessee and a valid Tennessee driver's license.
  • Must have available transportation as position involves working in more than one health department.
  • Primary care experience preferred.

Required Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited medical school or university and completion of internship/residency.
  • Experience supervising nurse practitioners is helpful.
