Position Summary

This position works under the guidance of the Quality Manager and is responsible for supporting improvements in product quality and first pass yield. This is accomplished by identifying quality improvement opportunities, collecting Statistical Process Control (SPC) data, and assisting the quality and production team members with projects related to eliminating in process defects and performing root cause analysis of customer quality complaints. The Quality Engineer helps develop corrective actions, participates in continuous improvement projects, and leads in their completion. Corrective actions and continuous improvement projects to be designed to improve first part yield (FPY) in each department of the production facilities by collecting and analyzing data specific to various steps of the process; and helping complete the appropriate problem-solving methodology to implement those improvements.

Core Functions



  • Identify and lead projects in facilities to implement corrective actions that are sustainable to resolve process defects and customer quality issues.
  • Seek out areas to improve quality and function in facilities.
  • Collect, analyze, and report real time data related to defect improvement projects and provide support for facility improvement initiatives.
  • Manage the collection of analysis of SPC data.
  • Monitor incoming material quality and conduct discussions and visits with vendors when quality issues arise on purchased product.
  • Drive corrective actions related to incoming materials.
  • Conduct and lead continuous improvement projects in multiple facilities and ensure correct documentation is completed to support outcomes.
  • Promote the use of SPC techniques to help reduce variability and achieve process control.
  • Provide support to the production team in the implementation of changes to drive quality improvements.
  • Provide New Product Development support by participating in Process and Design FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis).
  • Prepare PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) requests for supplier submission and their subsequent review when received from suppliers.
  • Conduct First Article piece part Inspections for Prototype and First Production Run of new components.


Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality or related field required.
  • 3+ years of related experience in engineering or quality required.
  • Experience conducting and designing design of experiments and Gage repair and replace.
  • SPC experience and knowledge of SPC tools required.


Required Licenses



  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) certification preferred.


Travel



  • Occasional travel may be required between facilities within a 20-mile radius.
