About the team and position

Ports America is seeking a labor and employment attorney to join its Legal Team as Senior Corporate Counsel. This position reports to the Vice President of Legal- Litigation, Labor and Employment, Regulatory, and Governance. The role offers flexibility to be based in one of our shared services offices located in Chandler, AZ, or Morristown, NJ.

What you'll be doing

As the Senior Corporate Counsel, Labor and Employment, you will provide expert advice, counsel, and strategic guidance to our Human Resources and Operations teams on a wide range of employment issues across multiple jurisdictions, including those involving a unionized workforce.

Key responsibilities include:



  • Advising on labor and employment matters to support compliance and operational excellence.
  • Assisting with the preparation of responses to local, state, and federal administrative charges.
  • Managing labor and employment-related litigation.
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Leading labor and employment-related projects, including policy and process review and development.


This role provides a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our operations and workforce strategy while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams. It is ideal for a seasoned labor and employment attorney with a strategic mindset and a passion for problem-solving.

Minimum Requirements:



  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • 7+ Years of legal practice experience
  • Membership in good standing with a United States State Bar


Preferred Requirements



  • Candidates should have at least 1-3 years' experience in one or more of the following:
  • In-House Counsel
  • Litigation Management
  • Employee Benefits
  • Traditional Labor Law
  • Working knowledge of a broad array of laws and regulations applicable to the employment function, on the federal, state, and local level, including Title VII, ADEA, OWBPA, ADA, FMLA, ERISA, FLSA, NLRA.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop creative and compliant solutions to legal issues.
  • Client-oriented, approachable, responsive, and engaging proactive customer service approach to the role.
  • Ability to handle multiple, high-level complex projects and high volumes of work on an ongoing basis, with strong attention to detail.
  • Exercise of sound judgment and the highest degree of integrity and ethical standards.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to make formal presentations/training and to provide engaging, clear, communication of legal concepts to non-lawyers.
  • Must have the ability to analyze risk in a collaborative and effective way with partners in the business and Human Resources.
  • Ability to function independently with limited guidance.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English is required.
  • Must have the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively to a diverse range of stakeholders.
