The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for an experienced and team oriented Fabrication Mechanics Supervisor who will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the fabrication and engineering operations within the organization.

This role will be a full-time position based out of our Carpinteria, CA office. You will have the opportunity to ensure that all fabrication projects and completed on time, within budget, and meet all performance standards for safety, quality, and performance standards. The supervisor will manage a team of engineers, fabricators, and technicians to ensure optimal efficiency, safety, and adherence to project specifications. The team

Avantor's Project Engineering team is part of our NuSil Technology business unit. This team supports the innovation and growth objectives of major laboratories across the globe by helping with the integration of new technology solutions into their lab processes and operations.

What we're looking for

  • Education: High school or equivalent
  • Experience: 5-6 years in relevant skilled trade with 3+ years as a supervisor
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication techniques, materials, and machinery.
  • Proficient in CAD software and engineering tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.).
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems and make decisions under pressure.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with budgeting, scheduling, and cost estimation for fabrication projects.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance in a manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications in welding, fabrication, or engineering management
  • Machining and ASME process
  • Construction experience
  • College or engineering degree

Team Leadership & Supervision:

  • Supervise, train, and mentor a team of fabricators, welders, engineers, and technicians.
  • Delegate tasks, set goals, and monitor team performance to ensure productivity and quality standards are met.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment focused on continuous improvement.

Project Management:

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the fabrication and engineering activities for multiple projects.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Work closely with project managers and other departments to ensure seamless communication and workflow between fabrication and engineering teams.

Fabrication Oversight:

  • Manage fabrication processes, including material selection, cutting, welding, assembly, and finishing.
  • Ensure fabrication processes comply with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and troubleshooting to minimize downtime and optimize productivity.

Engineering Support:

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to translate technical designs into feasible fabrication processes.
  • Assist in the development of detailed project plans, schedules, and resource allocation.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to address fabrication challenges and improve processes.

Quality Assurance & Compliance:

  • Enforce adherence to quality control measures and industry standards throughout the fabrication process.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, OSHA standards, and environmental guidelines.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to maintain high-quality standards and identify areas for improvement.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Assist in the preparation and management of budgets for fabrication and engineering projects.
  • Ensure efficient use of materials, labor, and equipment to minimize waste and reduce costs.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements, cost-saving initiatives, and operational efficiencies.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, tools, and technologies to enhance the fabrication and engineering processes.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and move materials, equipment, and tools (typically up to [insert weight]).
  • Ability to work in manufacturing environments that may involve noise, machinery, and variable temperatures.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily based in a manufacturing or fabrication facility.
  • office work for project planning and documentation.

$82,000.00 - $137,000.00

Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
