Yale New Haven Hospital is seeking an ACPE Certified Educator to develop and lead Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) programs, including summer intensive units and extended units. This individual will play a key role in training future chaplains, and spiritual caregivers through an accredited CPE program. They will provide high-quality supervision, curriculum development, program administration, and student evaluation while fostering an environment of spiritual and professional growth.


Responsibilities

  • Program Development & Leadership
  • Design, implement, and oversee ACPE-accredited CPE programs (including summer intensive and extended units).
  • Ensure compliance with ACPE accreditation standards and maintain program accreditation.
  • Develop a curriculum integrating clinical experience, theological reflection, and personal formation.
  • Recruit, select, and orient CPE students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Develops and manages an ACPE Accredited CPE program that emphasizes student-centered learning and mutual respect.
  • Coordinates admissions interviews and communicates admissions decisions.
  • Designs and implements curriculum for student-centered learning.
  • Provides coaching and supervision of students; assigns, reviews, and comments on students' written materials in a timely manner

Supervision & Education Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to CPE students.
  • Facilitate group seminars, individual supervision, and case study discussions.
  • Guide students in self-reflection, spiritual assessment, and pastoral care skills development.
  • Evaluate students' progress and provide timely feedback.
  • Evaluate students' personal and professional functioning, write evaluative reports in accordance with ACPE standards, and complete ACPE forms for students who complete their program.
  • Facilitates and attends meetings of the Professional Advisory Committee (PCC), in consultation with the chair, to inform its members of the program's educational activities as well as to receive advice about maintaining standards of excellence in the CPE program.
  • Maintains ACPE standards for an ACPE Accredited CPE program.
  • Report to and Collaborates with the Manager of Spiritual Care and work with the office coordinator to provide spiritual care coverage and participate in other spiritual care programs as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Collaboration & Administration

  • Work closely with the Spiritual Care Department, hospital leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure the integration of CPE students in clinical settings.
  • Establish strong relationships with faith communities, seminaries, and healthcare institutions to promote the CPE program.
  • Maintain accurate student records, program evaluations, and required reports for ACPE and hospital administration.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and ongoing ACPE training.

Qualifications

  • ACPE Certified Educator in good standing with a minimum of 3 yrs experience.
  • Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent theological degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in designing and leading CPE programs, with a track record of program growth and development.
  • Strong pastoral identity and commitment to interfaith and intercultural competency.
  • Excellent teaching, supervision, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a complex, fast-paced healthcare environment while maintaining a student-centered approach.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and leadership abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a large academic medical center.
  • Familiarity with Yale New Haven Hospitals mission, values, and healthcare system.
  • Board-certified chaplain (e.g., APC, NACC, NAJC) preferred but not required
