Accounting Rotational Program Representative, Emerging Talent

The Emerging Talent Programs at Heritage Environmental Services are designed to train and develop high potential candidates and provide opportunities to accelerate your career growth and gain direct, hands-on experience. Working alongside managers and leaders, exposure to high level projects, and individualized mentorship provides a unique experience for all participates.

The Accounting Rotational Program is a two-year program that explores four areas of our accounting department - Accounts Payable, Customer Accountability, Billing, Tax / Treasury, and / or Field Service Projects

Essential Functions & Requirements - Talent Programs:



  • Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and maintaining safe practices at all times
  • Develops an understanding of how the company works and builds relationships with Emerging Talent Program representatives through regularly scheduled meetings, annual training workshops, and mentor programs
  • Networks with professionals from various disciplines across the organization to enhance teamwork, collaboration, communication, problem solving, and strategic thinking skills
  • Maintains awareness of all Company policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure compliance
  • Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization


Essential Functions & Requirements - Accounting:



  • Assists with analyses and support of Business Units during monthly closing and planning cycles; provides commercial and operational margin analysis/insight, produces the financial reporting package, KPI's, and Board reporting and supports portions of the annual budgeting cycle
  • Learns various utilities and functions of operating/reporting systems (PeopleSoft, MMS, EPM) and supports the economic analysis of projects and capital investments
  • Assists staff with all financial record-to-report functions (including AP/expense management, inter-company activity, reconciliations, and GAAP financial reporting), as well as financial and tax audit coordination and system implementation and integration; develops reserve analysis and financial reports for management
  • Executes monthly closing responsibilities for a group of locations or specific Business Unit(s), consolidates and reports all financial information to location/BU leadership and provides ad-hoc analysis and location/BU financial support for key initiatives
  • Supports and leads various billing processes to improve the customer experience and gain exposure to various locations across the US as part of the location billing team; performs customer credit risk assessments and supports collection processes to improve DSO and cash metrics
  • Provides cost accounting and operational business support and analyzes costs and trends in transportation and disposal, labor, and utilities; prepare budgets in conjunction with operations leaders and assists with physical inventory, while executing monthly journal entries associated with cost accounting
  • Gains knowledge and participates in all accounting functions of the department (Billing, AR Cash Application, Accounts Payable, Tax/Treasury, and Payroll)
  • Participates in year-end audit preparation and facilitates auditor requests for information
  • Continuously challenge self to improve professionally and develop skills necessary to perform this role on the team, this includes pursuing the designation of CPA


Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting (required)
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA (required)
  • High-performing recent graduate or expectation to graduate by start date -OR- qualifying education must have been obtained within the past 2 years of the start date



Experience:



  • Prior relevant internship, co-op, or practical experience (required)
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative - such as school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor, etc. or exceptional leadership on work projects (required)
