The Position

The Workforce and Professional Education Department at Ocean County College is a trusted provider of workforce training programs designed to enhance safety, compliance, and professional development across industries. We are seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic OSHA 10 Instructor to deliver in-person training and ensure students gain a comprehensive understanding of workplace safety practices in accordance with OSHA standards.

The OSHA 10 Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to individuals seeking OSHA 10 certification. The instructor will utilize established OSHA-approved curriculum and educational best practices to prepare students to identify workplace hazards, understand safety standards, and promote safe working environments. This role also includes managing classroom environments, ensuring compliance with OSHA training guidelines, and fostering an engaging and professional learning experience.

Classification: Workforce & Professional Education Instructor

Instructional Duration: Semester Based

Rate: $575/CEU (Continuing Education Units)
*Pay per class is dependent on the number of assigned Continuing Education Units (1 CEU is equivalent to 10 hours of work)


What You Will Do

  1. Deliver OSHA 10 training in compliance with OSHA Outreach Training Program standards.
  2. Teach essential workplace safety topics, including hazard recognition, workplace rights and responsibilities, and common industry safety standards.
  3. Utilize OSHA-approved curriculum and teaching materials to ensure consistent and effective training delivery.
  4. Foster a positive and engaging learning environment to encourage participation and understanding.
  5. Ensure all OSHA-required content is covered within the designated training timeframe.
  6. Evaluate student comprehension and participation through assessments, discussions, and interactive activities.
  7. Issue OSHA 10 cards to students who successfully complete the course, ensuring proper documentation is submitted to OSHA-authorized agencies.
  8. Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and certifications in accordance with OSHA Outreach Training Program requirements.
  9. Update and enhance instructional materials based on OSHA updates or changes in industry standards.
  10. Ensure the training environment complies with OSHA's safety guidelines and is equipped with necessary materials and equipment.
  11. Serve as a resource for students, addressing questions related to OSHA regulations and workplace safety practices.
  12. Provide feedback to the program coordinator to improve course delivery and outcomes.

The Successful Candidate Must Have

  1. Current OSHA-authorized Trainer for OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 General Industry or Construction Safety.
  2. At least 2 years of relevant industry experience in workplace safety or compliance.
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Proficiency with common software programs (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  5. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage diverse groups of learners.

Even Better If You Have

  1. Associate's degree or higher in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  2. Experience teaching or training in an educational or workplace setting.
  3. Familiarity with instructional design or adult learning principles.
