Position: Graduate Sustainability Internship

Location: Onsite at our Bedford or Londonderry NH office

Duration: 3-months (full time May 2025 - August 2025)

From your PASSION to ours

Reporting to the Sustainability team, you will assist with executing LUSY's agriculture strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, focusing on farm-level carbon footprinting and supporting regenerative practices through USDA grant programs. You'll help collect and analyze data using tools like Cool Farm Tool, engage with farmers, and contribute to outreach and research efforts. This role offers valuable experience in sustainable agriculture and data management across LUSY and Stonyfield's brand diverse milk supply.

From your EXPERTISE to ours

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Assist with the execution of LUSY and Stonyfield's brand's agriculture strategy for reducing GHG emissions in line with our Science-Based Target. This position will focus on data collection and entry for farm-level carbon footprinting using the Cool Farm Tool platform. Create summary & individualized Cool Farm Tool result reports for farmer facing audience and update milk emission factor to support carbon inventory accounting
  • In collaboration with Sustainable Agriculture Manager and National Fish and Wildlife Foundation staff (lead grant partner), prepare outreach materials and events to engage direct supply farms located in Vermont with manure management grant through USDA Regional Conservation Partnership Program. Track Stonyfield brand's supplier engagement and support grant application completion.
  • As part of Stonyfield's Brand's OpenTEAM engagement, assist with farmer adoption of tech tools like grazing record keeping apps and data collection for GHG models including Cool Farm Tool and Regrow's MRV platform. In coordination with Wolfe's Neck Center (WNC), onboard farms into WNC's USDA Partnership for Climate Smart Commodities program, setting up contracts with farmers to implement grant-funded regenerative practices.
  • Support other aspects of the sustainable agriculture strategy for the full Lactalis US Yogurt milk supply. This includes organic, conventional, and non-GMO milk sourced for Brown Cow, Siggi's, Green Mountain, and private label brands.
  • As needed, conduct literature reviews and outreach to researchers on relevant topics including efficacy of biochar, agroforestry, and feed additives to reduce enteric fermentation as pathways for reducing organic dairy farm GHG emissions.
  • Schedule permitting, assist the Lactalis US Yogurt sourcing and sustainability teams with other projects related to organic transition planning for prospective Stonyfield direct supply farms, organic training, and sustainability in other agricultural ingredient supply chains.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Corporate Social Responsibility, Purchasing, Marketing and others to implement sustainability initiatives.
  • Visit Stonyfield brand's supply farms across New England to collect climate-related data and implement grant funded projects.

Practical Skills Development

  • Learn how to use GHG models like Cool Farm Tool to quantify farm-level GHG impacts and translate results into corporate GHG accounting standards.
  • Experience translating data collection and scientific research into communications and presentations relevant to internal stakeholders at Lactalis and consumers of Lactalis products.

Professional Growth

  • Exposure to corporate sustainability strategy and implementation in the food & agriculture sector.

From your STORY to ours

Qualified applicants will contribute the following:

  • Currently enrolled in graduate studies in agriculture, sustainability, or a related field.
  • Interest or experience in responsible sourcing programs focusing on the environmental and social impacts of agricultural supply chains.
  • Interest or experience in researching agricultural greenhouse gas emissions mitigation strategies.
  • Experience with farm-level data collection and database management; enthusiasm for using technology to enhance agricultural sustainability and build knowledge networks.
  • Farming experience or experience working directly with farmers is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal, public communication, writing, and analytical skills, particularly with diverse audiences.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and independent work skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel independently to farms across New England (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and eastern New York).
