Duties & Responsibilities




  • Application of technical, subsurface, and business knowledge to define, evaluate and recommend discovered resource growth opportunities, including potential acquisitions.
  • Conduct various business development activities e.g. asset screening, valuations, data-rooms, opportunity framing etc. to identify and prioritise opportunities.
  • Complete subsurface due diligence of opportunities with discovered and/or prospective resources.
  • Integrate assessments of geological resources, development concepts, and commercial analysis into opportunity capture recommendations.
  • Screen target markets/geographies to identify potential opportunities to access discovered oil and gas resources.
  • Support deal origination, commercial and business development activities from opportunity identification to deal execution.
  • Support the quantification and analysis of opportunity valuation including the assessment of risks and upsides.
  • Establish close working relationships with internal cross-functional stakeholders to progress opportunities (including preparation of materials, reviewing outputs and analysis).
  • Other duties as required by the Head of DRO including working flexibly across the Exploration and New Venture organization.



Skills & Experiences




  • International experience in geologic evaluation including seismic interpretation, ranging from play analysis to prospect maturation and contingent resource assessments.
  • Expertise in opportunity capture for exploration and discovered resource opportunities, with specialty skills in subsurface due diligence.
  • Experienced in assessing the competitive landscape, fiscal regime and subsurface of multiple basins and countries.
  • Working knowledge of upstream transaction structures, development concepts, and project valuation analysis.
  • Working knowledge of global oil, gas, and LNG value chains; strong business acumen across strategic planning and portfolio assessments.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and a strong ability to build relationships, including ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Developed communication skills to exchange complex information. Experienced in preparing executive level decision documents.
  • Global experience in oil and gas exploration/new ventures or business/project development roles
  • Proven history in executing exploration and new venture opportunity capture and project delivery.
  • Tertiary degree with strong technical or numeric focus (e.g. geoscience, engineering)
  • Mastering technical software, such as Petrel and GEOX
  • Proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement and leading change.
  • Leadership and teamwork skills - ability to lead virtual and informal teams.
  • Always behaves in a manner consistent with the Woodside Compass, whilst embracing inclusion and diversity.
