About the Role

Communications Medicine publishes high-quality research from all areas of medicine and human health research. The journal is part of the Nature Portfolio open access titles, which includes Nature Communications, Scientific Reports and other Communications journals.

We are seeking an ambitious, dynamic Chief Editor, who will continue to develop Communications Medicine as a leading publication in the field. This job is offered on a full-time, permanent basis and can be located in our New York, or Shanghai offices (hybrid working). Internal applicants from other journals hub locations may also apply.

The successful applicant will lead the in-house editorial team and work closely with them - as well as the Editorial Board - on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and peer review. A key aspect of the job is liaising with adjacent journal teams within the wider Nature Portfolio and organizing external outreach through conferences and site visits.

The successful candidate will be dynamic and have excellent interpersonal skills. Broad scientific knowledge and training, excellent literary skills and the ability to absorb new areas of research are prerequisites.

Required skills, qualifications and experience:

Essential:

  • A PhD, or equivalent qualification, with a strong track record in research relevant to the fields covered in the journal.

  • A broad knowledge and understanding of the topics covered by Communications Medicine.

  • The ability to identify, absorb and understand emerging trends in research relevant to Communications Medicine.

  • Effective literary and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and has strong interpersonal skills.

  • Commercial awareness.

  • A positive attitude to change.

Desirable:

  • Postdoctoral experience.

  • Previous editorial and/or managerial experience.

US Annualized Base Salary Range: $130,000 - $145,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
