Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide customer service and support to Hospital, clinical and operating room operations. Incumbent works directly with OR surgeons and nursing supervisors to ensure critical OR supplies are readily available, and PAR levels are set adequately. Incumbent is also responsible for adding and removing OR supplies to and from our perpetual inventory to supplement fast moving items from depleting and becoming outdated, and notifies OR staff of any supply changes, IE, back orders, overstock, substitute and discontinued products and recommending permanent replacement products in conjunction with the Purchasing Department. Incumbent must independently ensure that tasks are timely prioritized and that all shift - assigned tasks are completed. Special assignments are to be completed if/when regularly scheduled tasks are completed; therefore, incumbent must be self-motivated and in sync with co-workers on project status. Primarily assigned to work the hospital operating departments, the incumbent singularly represents the entire department. Therefore, the individual must serve as a technical expert and perform tasks and possess overall skills and knowledge regarding clinical and operating room medical supplies, patient equipment; patient care organizational information and the resources to draw upon; overall SC Clinical Inventory department general functions.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Extensive experience with OR and clinical supplies, instrumentation, and equipment and know their applications and suitable substitutions.
  • Experience in maintaining multiple filing systems, records, and logistical information is required in this position.
  • Experience with and general recognition of medical equipment hospital/clinical setting are required.
  • Proficiency in and experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of computerized and hard-copy information systems is essential.
  • Extensive knowledge of cost-effective material management practices in an OR environment, relative to product storage, distribution methods, product security, receiving goods, selling goods, crediting returns, product integrity for patient use and product substitutions as it relates to clinical inventory items and goods.
  • Knowledge and use of basic mathematical calculations, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Skills for accurate calculations of inventory replenishment, weight, units of measure, and package counts are essential.
  • Must be able to clearly understand, speak, read, and write English to comprehend and convey instructions on invoices, shipping documents, control logs, inventory sheets, communications systems and general correspondence.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to relay instructions and ideas to a diverse audience. Incumbent must be capable of maintaining professional demeanor while working accurately and quickly, handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Extensive knowledge and functions related to hospital supply activities is required. This includes distribution logistics, proper documentation, weights and units of measure, and policies and procedures related to product dispersal.
  • Strong working knowledge of linen and medical/surgical supplies; know their applications and suitable substitutions.
  • Incumbent must be capable of making logical and sound decisions and knowing when limits of personal authority and resourcefulness have been reached. Must recognize when to act independently or when to seek proper authority or involve other resources to solve a situation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of policies and procedures applicable to the receiving and processing of hospital supply-related materials are extremely important to this position.
  • Strong working knowledge of medical/surgical supplies; their applications and suitable substitutions.

  • Knowledge and understanding of UC policies and procedures applicable to the receiving and processing of hospital supply-related materials are extremely important to this position.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles relating to planning, organizing, and controlling is desired for this position.

Work Environment
