A vacancy exists for the position of Material Specialist Trainee. Please see the attached job description and outline for the interview.

The starting rate of pay for this position is $26.85 per hour.

This position is 100% on-site and works Monday-Friday (5-days a week) shift. Start time begins no later than 6:00 AM daily. Candidate must be able to work overtime and shift work once training has been completed.

Normal Minimum Requirements:

* High school diploma or equivalent

* Possess a valid, up-to-date driver's license

* Ability to obtain/maintain a valid a Class A driver's license (CDL)

* Inventory experience related to order picking and stocking equipment

* Familiarity with Microsoft Office Software

* Ability to learn the required duties and following instructions

* Ability to perform work in a safe and productive manner with fellow workers and customers

* Ability to work overtime, holidays, weekends, shift work and in inclement weather

* Must have verbal and written communication skills

* Ability to follow instructions

* Ability to read, write legibly, distinguish color codes

* Physically able to bend, stoop, and lift for extended periods of time

* Ability to work harmoniously with fellow workers and customers maintaining a positive attitude

* Ability to maintain a high level of awareness and responsibility for environmental considerations that impact TEP and the community

* Ability to successfully complete and pass all required testing

*PLEASE NOTE: To be considered for this position, a resume must be submitted, enumerating qualifications and skills.

There will be a three-part testing procedure required for this position. The first step is a written exam followed by a hands-on practical assessment and a behavioral based interview. Each step of the process must be passed to progress to the next step.

We are providing an outline to prepare for the three-part testing procedure. The outline is designed to maximize test results by centralizing study times in the areas listed below:

Technical Skills Test Outline (test must be completed within 90 minutes)

Knowledge of the following:

  • Basic Math

  • Basic Safety Procedures

  • Inventory Management

  • Forklift operation and safety requirements

Practical Assessment Outline

Knowledge of the following:

  • Lifting

  • Stacking

  • Climbing

  • Pack Slip Verification

Behavioral Based Interview

The interview is a behavioral-based interview incorporating Tucson Electric Power Core Competencies. In this process we believe that past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior and more recent behavior is a better predictor of future behavior than older behavior, and that long-standing trends are better predictors of behavior than isolated incidents. We therefore have patterned the questions during the interview to solicit behavior patterns that indicate with high predictability whether the candidate can perform the job as required. This type of interview is different than those that you may have taken in the past.

Position Description:

The Material Specialist Trainee is a classification for the purpose of providing employee training. Employee must be able to obtain the Material Specialist position within 1 year. The employee is expected to perform all the basic and less skilled duties in connection with operations and maintenance performed by personnel in the section to which he/she is assigned. This employee must possess the ability to learn the required duties and the physical coordination necessary to perform his/her duties. The training involves strict examining and satisfactory progress is required. This employee's work may be directed by supervisors or other employees in a higher classification. He/she may be required to perform work as an individual. The work which is performed as an individual will be in conformance with training and safe work practices.

Position-Related Responsibilities:

  • Assist personnel in the department they are assigned to complete daily tasks
  • Perform work alone within the conformance of training and safe work practices
  • Able to take directions and have a willingness to learn
  • Perform assigned work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Company practices and procedures. This is a safety sensitive position
  • Able to safely perform work within their training and ability
  • Documents and stocks, issues, and returns of material to support Material Operations
  • Performs order picking and stocking of material to support Material Operations activities as required
  • Packages materials and performs pickups and deliveries as required
  • Supports physical inventory requirements as required
  • Performs basic labor and housekeeping tasks to support Material Operations
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Shift work is required
  • Overtime work is required
  • Requires the ability to obtain and maintain Class A CDL License within the first year
  • Must pass training and testing required to advance to Material Specialist Step 1
  • Progression to the Material Specialist Classification is based on demonstrating a satisfactory work record and successfully passing job related tests at the end of each step. Employees failing the test shall remain in that step for an additional six months, at which time tests will be administered again
  • Support and communicate Operational Excellence goals, objectives, vision and values
  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Become familiar with the basic skills inherent in the classification in which they are aligned
  • Must possesses a valid up-to-date Driver's License, with the ability to obtain (within the first 12 months of hire) and maintain a Commercial Driver's License, current CDL preferred
  • Must have inventory experience related to order picking and stocking equipment
  • Must possesses the ability to learn the required duties and the physical coordination necessary to use special tools and equipment associated with work area
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Software
  • Must have basic math skills
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Ability to work overtime, holidays, weekends, shift work and in inclement weather
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to read, write legibly, distinguish color codes
  • Ability to work harmoniously with fellow workers and customers maintaining a positive attitude
  • Physically able to lift, climb ladders, and work at heights for extended periods of time and carry heavy weights, within the scope of safe work practices
  • Experience operating vehicles such as electric carts, fork lifts and truck and trailer combinations, preferred
  • Possess the ability to learn the required duties and the physical coordination necessary to use tools and equipment associated with his/her work area
  • Have basic understanding and comply with all TEP safety rules and regulations
  • Maintain high level of awareness and responsibility for environmental considerations that impact them, their jobs and the company to the level of their knowledge, training and experience

Training curriculums may vary based on business needs. Training Progress Reviews will be held with the employee and the employee will have an opportunity to comment about training issues.

Pay Rate: $26.85 per hour
