The Role

As we continue to grow as QuidelOrtho, we are seeking a Software Development Engineer to support new product development.

This position will be onsite in Rochester, NY.

The Position

  • Develop quality software both in and related to Medical Instruments
  • Experience with setting up and executing the full CI-CD Pipeline
  • Excellent problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills, and ability to work independently are required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details are required.
  • Good interpersonal skills are required.
  • Experience in defining and collecting software quality metrics
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

The Individual

Required:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Software related discipline
  • A minimum of 3 years of industry experience in a regulated industry: FDA 21 CFR 820, the Quality System Regulation, ISO 13485, and IEC 62304 are required.
  • Professional software experience in a Unix or Windows environments
  • Strong knowledge of programming fundamentals with a high-level language (C++, Java, C#, etc.).
  • Familiarity with a software version control system (Git, SVN, Mercurial, etc.).
  • Good communication and documentation skills, including generation of design considerations and tradeoffs.
  • Ability to read, follow, and modify uncommented code with a drive to create a better design.
  • Experience developing software in a highly regulated industry.
  • Knowledge of development environment tools like Jira, HP Quality Center, IBM/Rational DOORS, Aligned Elements, and Microsoft Team Foundation Server.
  • This position is not currently eligible for visa sponsorship.

Preferred:

  • Experience running virtual machines with VirtualBox and VMWare.
  • Experience configuring and using software automated testing tools like HP Quick Test Professional.
  • Familiarity with a scripting language (Python, Perl, Lua, Bash, etc.) preferred.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration methods and tools (Jenkins) preferred.
  • Knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
  • Knowledge of 3rd party libraries to parse common configuration formats (XML, JSON, etc.) preferred.

The Work Environment

The work environment characteristics are representative of a manufacturing, laboratory, or warehouse environment and include handling of viral and bacterial hazards, potentially hazardous chemicals, as well as infectious or potentially infectious bodily fluids, tissues, and samples. Up to 75% of the time at desk, standing or sitting extended periods of time. Flexible work hours to meet project deadlines

Physical Demands

This person must have the ability to work in a BL2 lab environment. Use of PPE as required. Up to 50% working in the lab, standing or sitting extended periods of time. may require testing in a Bio-hazardous lab environment, training will be provided. Bio-hazardous fluids may be used in testing.

Salary Transparency

The salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary range for this position is $25.00 to $35.00/hour and is bonus eligible.
