Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred. Preference given to Social Work degrees or a related field (i.e., Psychology, Masters in Human Services). In lieu of degree, five years of social service experience may be substituted.
  • If applicable, must be licensed by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
  • Experience working in a social service setting required.
  • Understanding of the delivery of Social Services.
  • Ability to accept supervision and work with a team of co-workers.
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete tasks with a minimum of direction.
  • Ability to work well with clients of diverse cultural and socioeconomic groups; respect confidentiality; able to work within ethical and legal parameters of social services.
  • Ability to use Salvation Army approved word processing, spreadsheet, data base management, and graphics/desktop publishing software packages.
  • Must be certified in food safety or become certified within the first ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Valid Driver's License. (Must meet the guidelines provided by the State of residence and the automobile insurance provider as pertaining to corps' passenger vans/buses.)
  • Must pass The Salvation Army background checks and meet the MVR driver's qualifications.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Willingness to support the philosophy, goals, objectives, and mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Must complete The Salvation Army Caseworker Certification Program within twelve (12 months of hire).
  • It must be understood by the incumbent that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon commencement of employment and also understood that the required Safe From Harm training be satisfactorily completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.


Summary of Position

The Social Services Coordinator II (SSC II) assists clients in resolving immediate and longer-term crises by providing resources and information according to established Salvation Army policies and procedures. The SSC II also work with Salvation Army seasonal programs and serves as a liaison to other organizations and agencies in delivering services. This position also serves a primary leadership role in the Emergency Disaster Services of The Salvation Army in Olmsted and surrounding counties.

This is a regular full-time position with a work week expectation of 40 hours per week.

$22.00 - $23.81/hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors.   • Support the Mission of The Salvation Army by treating every donor, contact and colleague appropriately and without discrimination of any kind.
  • Adhere to the guiding principles of The Salvation Army's social services ministries as outlined in Faith In Action with an emphasis on intentional outreach in the area of pastoral care to those we serve.
  • Intake Work

    • Assess client needs and situations and assist with appropriate physical resources or referrals as needed to assist them in resolving crises according to Salvation Army policies and keeping with-in established budgets & guidelines maintaining required levels of confidentiality and confidence.
    • Maintain current and accurate client records and statistics in computer database and files according to Salvation Army and other governing entities needs and regulations.
    • Prepare and submit required statistics and reports as directed.


  • Food Shelf

    • Act as contact for Food Shelf volunteers when Program Director is not available.
    • Fill in for Food Shelf volunteers when needed.


  • Rapid Rehousing

    • Assist Rapid Rehousing with client management as needed.
    • Assist Rapid Rehousing participants and perform home visits as needed and appropriate during TLC's absences for illness or vacation.


  • Noon Meal Program

    • Supervise clients during noon meal program and assist with food serving as needed.
    • Assist with providing coverage for the cook as needed during times of illness and vacation.
    • Be Serve Safe Certified.


  • Pathway of Hope

    • Work with designated Pathway of Hope committee to identify, enroll and monitor progress of families in the program. Enter required data in the official software for tracking purposes.


  • Outreach

    • Provide outreach services to community agencies (i.e., Dorothy Day House) as needed and directed.


  • Seasonal

    • Provide direct oversite to the Warming Center during the winter, including ordering of supplies, opening and closing the center, coordinating the volunteer and security staff schedules.
    • Assist with Christmas Assistance Programs (i.e., Toy & Joy Shop, and Christmas Intake Applications) as needed and directed.




Other Duties:



  • Disaster Services

    • Be trained and be the primary disaster services contact with the city and county disaster services departments.
    • Respond and direct or assist with disaster services in Olmsted County as needed and directed.


  • Regularly attend Social Services staff meetings and give input as appropriate.
  • Represent The Salvation Army at community meetings, as assigned.
  • Assist with the review and development of social services programs.
  • Assist with community service worker intakes and supervision.
  • Conduct facility tours and provide information for volunteers or community groups as requested.
  • Coordinate services with other agencies to avoid or minimize duplication of services to clients.
  • All other duties as assigned.
