GENERAL SUMMARY:

Assists in pre- and post-procedure care for invasive and noninvasive cardiovascular procedures in accordance with hospital and department established procedures. Responsible for identifying patient needs and priorities for care through assessment, planning and delegating care based on patient needs, executing therapeutic physician - or nurse-initiated interventions, and evaluating the patient's response to care and progress towards outcomes.

Supervises Licensed Practical Nurses and/or other support staff in the delivery of patient care as described in Nebraska Statues 38.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

*Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

*Initiates assessment based on the patient's presenting problems or needs including collecting key information from patient, family, laboratory and other medical reports. Determines priorities for care with special consideration given to patient teaching and documents assessment, clinical judgments and related information according to Bryan Medical Center procedures.

*Works closely with other care providers to complete the initial and ongoing assessments of patients and to provide clinical assistance as needed; reprioritizes care based on new information.

*Performs therapeutic nursing interventions as ordered by the physician and consistent with standards of care and practice, nursing division policies and procedures, professional competencies, and with consideration given to risk management and infection control practices.

*Assists with performance of cardiovascular procedures under instruction of a physician.

*Administers medication according to procedure and/or direct orders of physician.

*Documents care based on standards of care and practice and/or clinical priorities including:

a. Assessment and ongoing assessment findings

b. Updated clinical priorities

c. Therapeutic interventions with attention to patient education

d. Patient's response to interventions and progress toward outcomes

*Performs discharge planning and teaching; determines the impact of interventions on the patient's condition and recognizes the patient's progress towards meeting desired outcomes.

*Initiates communication with peers and other members of the health care team about clinical priorities of care; reports on patient conditions as appropriate.

*Maintains professional relationships and conveys relevant information to other members of the health care team.

*Initiates problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationship with peers.

*Provides direct care to patients as assigned based on patient acuity, needs and qualifications and competencies of self and of other staff members.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from a School of Nursing with current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required or required within six (6) months of hire.
