As the Manager, Audiovisual Design and Engineering, you will report to the Director of Audiovisual Design and Collaboration Spaces and lead a team responsible for delivering comprehensive audiovisual solutions across all GW campuses. Your role encompasses guiding the development and maintenance of AV design standards, overseeing Tier 3 system engineering support, directing the management of AV installations and commissioning, and providing strategic design consultations for new systems. You will also supervise AV systems programming, monitoring, and lifecycle planning while championing research and development initiatives. A focus on continuous improvement is essential to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency. This management position involves direct supervision of staff, making hiring decisions, providing coaching, training, and mentoring, managing performance, and determining future staffing needs. You will collaborate with various support and engineering entities within GW IT and the broader university community to enhance the stability and capability of our AV support services and streamline remote assistance.
Job Duties will Include:
- Collaborate closely with the Supervisor of AV Classroom Support, whose Tier 2 technicians escalate issues to the engineering team thereby fostering a seamless escalation and resolution process.
- Lead the development and management of campus AV lifecycle capital planning to ensure strategic investment in technology upgrades and replacements.
- Provide strategic design consultations and engage with stakeholders to tailor AV solutions to meet the specific needs of the academic enterprise.
- Support the Director of Audiovisual Design and Collaboration Spaces in the development and maintenance of classroom and AV design standards, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and university policies. Serve as a key contributor in defining GW's future state for collaboration technology and developing strategic deployment plans.
- Oversee the maintenance of classroom datasets and establish performance metrics to support planning, decision-making, and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate AV installations, both internally and with third-party vendors, to ensure timely and successful project completion, including management of project budgets.
- Lead the commissioning of AV systems, ensuring they meet design specifications and operational requirements.
- Oversee AV control systems and DSP programming to ensure that systems are configured for optimal performance and high-quality audio processing.
- Implement AV systems with remote management and environment monitoring to proactively identify and resolve issues and ensure system integrity.
- Champion AV and collaboration systems research and development to explore new technologies and drive innovation.
- Ensure comprehensive AV design documentation is created and maintained for all systems and projects.
- Provide technology training and mentoring to team members, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in AV processes and technologies to enhance service delivery.

Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |

- Proven ability to lead an engineering team and oversee complex project portfolios.
- Certifications in AVIXA CTS (I or D a plus), Crestron, Extron, Biamp, or AMX ecosystems.
- Able to generate project documentation including schematic drawings, budget documents, and scope of work documents.
- Experience providing functional team leadership and staff development.
- Experience managing vendors to successfully complete project scope.
- Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Experience providing professional development opportunities to staff.
- Creative problem-solving and consistent time management skills.
- Experience with project management, project engineering, and program management.
