Position Highlights

The University of Arizona Health Sciences (UAHS) Biorepository and Center for Disparities in Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism (CDDOM) advances health and translation biomedical research through banking and providing biospecimens for researchers across the University, clinical trial research and community based research. The Computing Sciences Researcher will work to meet data and software/hardware needs with respect to data management, information, communications, digital security, and process support. They will develop, document, and support digital database systems, applications, and interfaces, as well as assist with data management for the efficient and reliable functioning of our joint units. They will be working closely with CDDOM and Biorepository leadership and in partnership with the quality team to help ensure the protection of PHI and compliance to regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Carry out development/documentation/support of processes, software, interfaces, database development, and devices for specimen and study management tools:
    • Specimen management system.
    • Electronic data capture, electronic paperwork.
    • Barcode scanning devices and software.
    • Label creation devices and software.
    • Internal REDCap projects.
  • Data Management: Assist leadership and faculty/PIs and unit leaders with:
    • Data cleaning.
    • Simple Data analyses.
    • Data dashboards and reports.
    • Data exports and imports.
  • Carry out development/documentation/support of processes, databases, software, interfaces, databases, and devices for quality management and general use:
    • Quality management system.
    • General electronic devices and software alongside COM IT (computers, tablets, printers, etc.).
    • Information security, backups, and maintenance.
    • Internal and external website development.
  • Professional development and outreach:
    • Continuously develop knowledge and skills in software, hardware, and integrated systems relevant to the UAHS Biorepository by attending workshops and conferences.
    • Act as a representative for the UAHS Biorepository within the UA biosciences community, and coordinate outreach as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Data Analysis Programming language proficiency (Python and R preferred).
  • Proficient in use of Excel formatting, formulas, and deeper features.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, data science, information technology, bioinformatics, biosciences or equivalent degree and/or experience.
  • Experience with or knowledge of biosciences and wet lab operations.
  • Experience with JSON, JavaScript, and HTML.
  • Experience working with relational databases, creating SQL queries.
  • Experience with quickly learning new software.
  • Troubleshooting experience for Windows operating system, desktop computers, and peripheral devices.
