The USC Roski Eye Institute, Department of Ophthalmology is seeking an Ophthalmic Service Specialist I to join its team.

This position is needed to support additional physicians and EMR administrative support at the Arcadia ophthalmology clinic. This (Ophthalmic Service Specialist I) is the central point for coordinating patient care/patient flow with the many different ophthalmology services. Such as, preliminary testing and imaging. Additional income will be generated by added patient growth coupled with adequate staff support.

Job Summary:

Provides technical ophthalmic and administrative assistance to the medical staff of the service assigned.

Job Accountabilities include:

  • Perform all necessary ophthalmic test and patient work-up to assist the medical staff to diagnose patient problems. Assist with special procedures and minor surgery.
  • Provides direct patient care on assigned service. Participates in patient care on other service when assigned service not in session, or as requested by the department administrator.
  • Serves in a liaison or triage capacity between the physician and patient to answer questions, coordinate care or provide patient education.
  • Assists in the orientation and supervision of technical staff, residents and fellows who rotate through the service.
  • Participates in and supports continuous improvement activities such as continuous improvement teams and educational sessions.
  • Participates in continuing medication education activities.
  • Ensure that patient preparation and paperwork is complete for pre op patients as required by surgery scheduling and admitting procedures.
  • Perform various administrative duties as assigned such as ordering of supplies and medication. Ensures rooms are stocked daily with medications and ophthalmic supplies.
  • Ensures confidentiality of all records and information related to patients, physicians, employees, the organization and in related interests.
  • Complies with all policies, procedures, regulatory and legal requirement as applicable.
  • Perform all tasks in a safe manner in compliance with safety policies and according to applicable regulations. Maintains a neat workstation and environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Education: High School or equivalent

Preferred Experience: 3 years

Percentage of Time: 100%; 40 hours/week

"The hourly rate range for this position is $39.15 - $40.32. Minimum Education: High school or equivalent
Minimum Certifications: Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)
Minimum Experience: 3 years Or 3 years certified as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant
Minimum Skills: Ophthalmic technical experience in a clinical setting. Knowledge of medical terminology.
Preferred Certifications: Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) Certified Orthoptist (CO)
