Mosquito Surveillance and Abatement Biker

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) is seeking individuals to work under the direct supervision of a licensed Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) applicator as Mosquito Surveillance and Abatement Biker (MSAB).

Responsibilities include:
* Collecting, testing, and reporting data for Culex mosquitoes and dead birds involving West Nile virus
* Investigating mosquito nuisance complaints and breeding sites
* Conducting tick surveillance activities
* Conducting public information activities and applying mosquito larvicide throughout all assigned treatment routes. Larvicide application duties will be performed by bicycle. The district will supply bicycles and any required safety equipment.

Requirements and Qualifications:
* Applicants must be 18 years of age or older
* High school diploma or GED equivalent; undergraduate students majoring in a related field are preferred.
* Must exhibit and maintain a high level of efficiency and dependability, while working independently in this field environment.
* Basic bicycle repair knowledge is preferred.
* Must have a valid driver's license, dependable transportation, and proof of auto insurance.
* Duties may be performed during peak times when heat is most prevalent.

This position is seasonal lasting approximately three (3) months, 35 hours per week starting in late spring. Compensation for this position starts at $19.00 to $20.00 per hour.
