Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking Youth Development Specialist for the Rutgers Future Scholars Newark program. Rutgers Future Scholars is seeking a Youth Development Specialist for the Newark Community which serves 250 rising 8th-12th grade students. The
RFS-Newark program is housed within the Center for PreCollege Programs (
CPP). Reporting to and under the supervision of the Program Manager.
The position responsibilities include and are not limited to the following:
- Design and facilitate student learning opportunities through college and career readiness, college exposure, service learning, financial literacy, civic engagement, STEM instruction, enrichment excursions, etc.
- Maintain activity logs for services delivered.
- Prepare and provide recruitment and group interview presentations for students and families.
- Assist the program coordinators and the Program Manager in preparing reports.
This position is contingent upon the continuation of grant funding. |

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
*Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
*Requires up to two years relevant experience in an administrative function, good communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy. |

Preferred Qualifications |
- Applicants should have knowledge of social and emotional competencies.
- Experience conducting small group and/or one-on-one sessions with adolescents to provide mentoring and support.
- Comparable experience includes working with students from urban areas, first-generation students, out-of-school time programming, facilitating college readiness seminars and/or social and emotional learning workshops for middle and high school students.
- A background in youth development, social work, psychology, urban education, and/or sociology is preferred.

- The role requires occasional lifting and transportation of classroom supplies.
- Able to lift to 20lbs.
- Must have access to an appropriate workspace with a laptop and internet to facilitate virtual workshops and small group sessions.
