Requisition ID req32494 Working Title KUNM Senior Host Reporter Position Grade 12 Position Summary Hosts National Public Radio (NPR) news programs and local broadcasts, delivering continuity elements, underwriting, promotions, and weather updates. Operates and engineers audio equipment for broadcasts. Produces and delivers newscasts and feature stories for broadcast and online publication by collecting and analyzing information, conducting interviews, and attending events. Combines advanced hosting and reporting responsibilities with leadership roles, including training, mentoring, and serving as an editorial resource for news staff. The hosts anchor the KUNM broadcast of NPR news magazine shows (Morning Edition, 5a - 8a, and/or All Things Considered, 5p - 7p) Monday through Friday. This includes producing four newscasts in each show using KUNM-produced content, Associated Press wire content, and stories from other news sites that require rewriting for broadcast. Hosts also produce program breaks, engineer live broadcasts of satellite feeds and queue up public affairs content. The job requires anchoring live breaking news events as needed, creating and updating online versions of newscast content, and engaging with the audience using online content and social media. Hosts also anchor live fundraisers with other station staff. Morning Edition shift is 4:30a - 8:30a, ATC is 3p-7p Reporters will initiate independent research, investigation, and story development in consultation with the News Director. They will write and prepare stories for broadcast and publication online. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications: Hosting: * Experience hosting NPR news magazine programs * Familiarity with public radio journalism style * Knowledge of New Mexico state and local government and culture * Familiarity with online CMS (Grove, WordPress, Core Publisher) * History of using social media in a professional setting Reporting: * Experience with investigative and enterprise journalism * In-depth knowledge and experience reporting on Hispanic/Latino and/or Native American cultures, communities and constituencies * Experience reporting on New Mexico communities * Competency in conversational Spanish * Commitment to community engagement Additional Requirements Please be sure to read the Job description for complete details on weekday work hours.
