Summary
As required by CLIA, testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and reporting test results. Each individual performs only those tests authorized by the laboratory director that align with their education, training, experience, and technical abilities. They work independently in an efficient and organized manner to ensure accurate results and records. This role requires a professional level of knowledge to accurately interpret test results used by providers in diagnosing and treating diseases. The Medical Laboratory Scientist, Senior I, in their role as Technical Supervisor, Technical Consultant, or General Supervisor as defined by CLIA, may be delegated the responsibility of technical oversight of the laboratory. This includes day-to-day supervision or oversight of operations and personnel performing testing and reporting results. Under the general supervision of the Technical Director and Clinical Supervisors, the Senior Technologist I is responsible for supervising assigned workstations, including quality control (QC) review, training, competency assessments, and inventory management. Does this position require patient care? No Essential Functions After successful completion of orientation, training, and competency assessment on all instruments/methods applicable to the role: Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results. Maintain records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples. Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed. Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within acceptable performance levels. Identify and address problems that may adversely affect test performance or result reporting, or immediately notify the appropriate supervisor or consultant. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications, per 42 CFR 493.1425, 493.1495.
