Project Coordinator- Excluded

Department of Finance

Chicago Benefits Office

Number of Positions: 1

(Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

Starting Salary: $67,656.00/annually

Under general supervision, the class ensures compliance and effectiveness within the Chicago Benefits Office in the areas of enrollment, eligibility, appeals, audits, budgeting, and finance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES



  • Reviews relevant plan documents, collective bargaining agreements, and federal laws, including HIPAA and FMLA, to ensure compliance with applicable provisions, rules, and regulations.
  • Assists with processing employee reimbursement requests.
  • Audits vendor accounts and other accounts to identify any underpayments by members during their leave of absence.
  • Audits vendor accounts and other accounts to ensure compliance with applicable billing requirements as determined by the City.
  • Reviews plan documents and collective bargaining agreements as needed to determine contribution rates and the appropriateness of refunds.
  • Assists in drafting and sending letters requesting employee reimbursement.
  • Assists in reviewing employee appeals to determine whether to recommend approval or denial to the City's Benefits Committee.
  • Serves as the liaison to the Deferred Compensation Committee, collaborating with the City's Chief Financial Officer, City Comptroller, Department of Human Resources Commissioner, and City Budget Director.



Additional duties may be required for this position.

Location: 2 N. LaSalle St., Room 1240, Chicago, IL 60602

Days: Monday through Friday

Hours: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in public or business administration, the social sciences, planning, or a related field, plus three (3) years of program administration work experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.



Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:



  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience in benefits administration or human resources management
  • Knowledge of compliance with management of medical, dental, and vision insurance plans

This position requires applicants to successfully complete an interview which will include a written exercise and/or skills assessment as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected.
