Director of Security & Safety
APEI

The Director of Security and Safety is responsible for overseeing all aspects of campus safety and security operations for APEI and its affiliates. This includes ensuring a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Director will lead the security team, manage safety protocols and various security systems, implement emergency response plans, and collaborate with local law enforcement, emergency responders, and campus leadership to address security concerns.

The Director of Security and Safety leads the security team which consists of two Security Specialists who take care of the day-to-day operations. They process security requests from APEI affiliate campuses and perform physical security functions at the Charles Town locations.

Responsibilities:



  • Oversee all physical security functions and security personnel for all APEI campuses.
  • Manage Physical Security projects to ensure they are completed according to schedule and budget.
  • Use, maintain, and troubleshoot the following security systems: Salto, Exacqvision, Bosch BVMS, Infinias, Vigil, Winpak, Alertus, iRAS, Hikvision. and Virtual Keypad.
  • Oversee AED/CPR/First Aid programs.
  • Troubleshoot common networking issues with security equipment while working with IT to correct issues.
  • Participate as an active member of campus Safety Committees.
  • Create security-related policies per VP of Real Estate.
  • Work with local law enforcement offices to ensure a secure environment.
  • Research and create safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Approve and maintain vendor contracts as they relate to security operations.
  • Ensure OSHA, ADA, Clery Act, and Federal guidelines are met.
  • Investigate and report security issues.
  • Teach security and safety-related classes to staff and students.
  • Work with in-house and outside Legal departments, as necessary.
  • Provide annual security reports as requested by APEI leadership.
  • Perform and oversee security-related investigations.
  • Oversee the physical security budget.
  • Monitor/measure Security team workload and evaluate monthly.
  • Provide routine/refresher training for Security staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Requirements:



  • Must have experience in security management and effective leadership skills.
  • Must be familiar with the Clery Act and its requirements.
  • Must be able to perform assigned tasks.
  • Proven ability to work independently and part of a team.
  • Must possess initiative and be self-disciplined.
  • Must be able to handle stressful situations from time to time.
  • Preferred active shooter training
  • Ongoing security and safety training required.


Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in security-related field preferred
  • IFPO CSSM certification preferred
