Assistant Teaching Professor in Rehabilitation and Recreational Therapy Position Description The Department of Counseling, Recreation and School Psychology (CRSP) at Florida International University (FIU) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, teaching faculty position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor in Rehabilitation and Recreational Therapy, to commence in the Fall semester of 2025. Responsibilities The appointed faculty member will have an assignment in the areas of instruction (90%) and service (10%). The instruction assignment during the first year will be 4 courses in the Fall semester, and 4 courses in the Spring semester (8 courses in the academic year), and involve the delivery of undergraduate courses for the Rehabilitation and Recreational Therapy program in in-person and online modalities. The appointee will also be expected to participate in student success and student engagement activities. Beyond instruction, the position encompasses active service contributions to support the department's mission. These may include assisting with the accreditation process of the recreational therapy program, contributing to curriculum meetings, and representing the department's standards and goals. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain active professional and community involvement to enhance our students educational experiences and raise the profile of the program at the professional, institutional, local community, and national levels. Qualifications Minimum requirements include an earned masters degree or higher in Recreational Therapy or a closely related field with at least 18 credits of recreational therapy graduate coursework. Candidates should hold an active credential as Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate excellence in teaching, with proven effectiveness in delivering instruction across various modalities at an institution of higher education. A successful candidate will have professional experience in recreational therapy, and a record of leadership, service, and community engagement. About the Program The Rehabilitation and Recreational Therapy Program at FIU is a vibrant and growing program with a healthy number of applicants and strong enrollment of approximately 600 undergraduate students. The program offers an undergraduate degree with two tracks; a student may pursue the rehabilitation track or the recreational therapy track. The rehabilitation track is designed for students interested in graduate programs in allied healthcare professions. The recreational therapy track prepares students for a career in recreational therapy and national certification as Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). Students can pursue the B.S. in Rehabilitation and Recreational Therapy in in-person or fully online modalities.
