Job Summary:



The C3 Global Trauma Network conducts innovative, collaborative, federally-funded trauma care research, predominantly in high-trauma international settings. A variety of rigorous observational and interventional methodologies are used to fill contemporary clinical knowledge gaps. The C3 Network seeks to generate high quality evidence to enhance early trauma care, with a special focus on improving patient outcomes in resource-constrained settings (e.g., in South Africa). The C3 Network has a track record of NIH and U.S. Department of Defense funding, including dozens of published peer-reviewed manuscripts and scientific presentations. Our research also deliberately seeks to fill clinical and scientific gaps for civilians worldwide and the U.S. military.

NATURE OF WORK:

This full-time (1.0 FTE) position will serve as an investigator at the rank of Senior Research Scientist and will collaborate with study colleagues at all levels of the organization. The position is non-clinical and suitable for any doctoral level applicant with relevant training and expertise. This position will work both independently and in close collaboration with the C3 Network's Principal Investigator, Dr. Nee-Kofi Mould-Millman, MD PhD MSCS, as well as collaborators and research staff domestically and internationally. To enable the incumbent to understand the international context and effectively supervise research activities, international travel is a requirement of the position. There will also be opportunities for domestic travel to present research at conferences and to stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Develop and maintain content expertise:

    • Understand the priorities and capabilities of the C3 Global Trauma Network
    • Understand the state of science and scientific gaps in trauma and injury care


  • Conceive, design, implement, and complete research projects:

    • Formulate project-specific research questions alongside the C3 Network PI in alignment with lab focus areas and domestic and international stakeholder needs
    • Alongside the C3 Network PI, select appropriate study methodologies, design, and plan research studies with the research team
    • Seek and build relationships with relevant external experts, if and when needed e.g., biostatisticians, technical consultants, content experts
    • Supervise and lead the management of data and the analytics team to analyze data to answer questions
    • Lead troubleshooting and resolution of operational, administrative, regulatory, and/or scientific issues if and as they may occur


  • Perform scientific and technical writing, and deliver presentations:

    • Co-lead the drafting and submission of research grants to federal and non-federal sponsors
    • Co-lead the writing and submission of regulatory and human subjects' documents e.g., data share agreements, ethics documents, study protocols, etc.
    • Co-lead writing of scientific abstracts, Technical and scientific reports, documents or presentations for stakeholder meetings, peer reviewed manuscripts.
    • Deliver or co-deliver presentations to diverse audiences
    • Updating relevant sections of existing research documents (e.g. protocols)
    • Work closely alongside the C3 Network's principal and co-investigators to accomplish the lab's program of work and provide leadership:

      • Help shape the vision and future program of work of the C3 Global Trauma Network
      • Serve as a mentor and teacher to learners and junior team members, including:

        • Research services professionals
        • Fellows (e.g., research, global health)
        • Resident physicians
        • Masters students
        • Post-doctoral personnel




    • Travel to advance the mission of the C3 Network:

      • Domestic travel is required to meet and/or present to stakeholders and scientific audiences
      • International travel is required to research sites to supervise activities, gain firsthand knowledge, and to advance collaborations


    • Participate as a member of the Department of Emergency Medicine's research faculty
    • Other research-relevant duties as assigned to promote the mission and vision of the Department of Emergency Medicine

The Department of Emergency Medicine is excited to recruit a doctoral-level, quantitatively-oriented, highly-motivated, trauma and injury researcher to contribute to clinical and epidemiologic research focused on life-threatening injuries. Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of physiology and clinical study design. This position will play a key role, as a research investigator, within the Cape-Colorado-Combat (C3) Global Trauma Network's research team. The researcher in this position will be appointed to, and build a career in, the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.



  • Doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, MD, DO, MBChB, DrPH, ScD, DNP, DPT)
  • Experience with human subjects research in an acute care related field
  • Peer-reviewed scientific publications in health journals (at least one first or co-author paper)
  • Experience preparing and submitting grants
  • Team science experience (i.e., worked in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary research team)


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Research in a clinical setting (e.g., emergency room, ICU, rehabilitation clinic, physiology clinic, etc.)
  • Experience in emergency medicine, critical care, injury, and/or trauma
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a research team and execute projects
  • Post-doctoral fellowship training, especially with external grant-writing experience
  • Interest in global health, resource-poor settings, high-risk populations, disadvantaged populations, or military populations
  • Statistics training and experience at intermediate level (e.g., can develop and run own multivariable regression models, time-series analyses, and survival plots, etc.)
  • Experience with design or analysis in clinical trials
  • Experience conducting epidemiology or research with large or complex datasets
  • Presentation at national or international scientific meetings (oral preferred over posters)

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Senior Research Scientist: $90,000

The above salary represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
