Graduate Programs Coordinator-Department of Architecture

About the Department of Architecture

The Department of Architecture dates to the founding of Cornell University. The department engages urgent global issues through a foundation of conceptual thinking and processes of making, and is committed to architectural practices informed by and embedding within evolving and dynamic social, environmental, and technical contexts. Degree programs include a professional Bachelor of Architecture, a professional Master of Architecture, post-professional Master of Science degrees in Advanced Architectural Design and Advanced Urban Design, and a doctoral program in the History of Architecture and Urban Development. Cornell Architecture students and faculty benefit from extensive maker spaces in AAP and a world-renowned library collection, and participate in an expanded footprint that includes AAP NYC and Cornell in Rome.

The Opportunity

The Department of Architecture is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Graduate Programs Coordinator to join our administrative team. This role is essential in supporting our graduate degree programs, including the Master of Architecture (M. Arch), Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design (M.S. AAD), Master of Science in Advanced Urban Design (M.S. AUD), and the Ph.D. in History of Architecture and Urban Development. The coordinator will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of these programs and fostering a supportive environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the full-cycle admissions process for all graduate programs.
  • Serve as a primary resource for graduate students and faculty, providing guidance on procedures, policies, and deadlines.
  • Facilitate the resolution of student concerns and administrative issues.
  • Administer graduate student assistantship assignments and funding award processes.
  • Manage graduate field and allocation budgets.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of university databases for graduate program administration.
  • Support curricular development and program enhancements.
  • Strong collaboration with other administrative teams across the college, including Admissions, Student Services, Finance, HR, Communications, and Facilities.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for students, faculty, and visitors.

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) endowed position that is based in Ithaca, NY and fully on-site. Typical work hours are 8am-4:30pm Monday through Friday.

What You Need

We are seeking a team member who is organized, collaborative, and successful at meeting deadlines. Additionally, you will:

  • Hold an Associate's degree, and 4-6 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination.
  • Be a great communicator (exhibiting professionalism in spoken and written encounters) with the desire to provide excellent service.
  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Be capable of working independently and in collaboration with others, and to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Be a top-notch problem-solver who wants to use these skills to help others.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment within your sphere of influence, and able to take empowered action when there are unknowns.
  • Be flexible and able to adjust priorities as needed.
  • Have attention to detail.
  • Be organized and proactive.
  • Have expertise with typical business software, including Microsoft Office Suite, as well as database management and manipulation (e.g., Airtable, Smartsheet) and financial management tools, and/or the ability to gain fluency quickly.
  • Be able to adapt to changing policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

Having familiarity with Cornell-specific systems, policies, and procedures is a plus but not required - what will be necessary are the abilities to learn these quickly and to keep skills and knowledge up-to-date.

If you possess these experiences and skills this may be the role for you! There are a few other qualifications we would view as incredibly helpful in this role, to include:

  • Bachelor's degree, and additional experience in a busy office or academic setting.

A cover letter and resume are required for further consideration for this position.
