Plant Technical Manager - Albuquerque Plant

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Albuquerque Plant is a non-union, high-performance manufacturing facility with approximately 410 employees. It produces Cereal and Snack Bars, supporting the Morning Foods and Snacks Operating Units. The product portfolio includes iconic brands like Reese's Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Golden Grahams, Cocoa Puffs, Monsters Cereals, Nature Valley Crunchy and Chewy bars and Cereal Treat Bars. The facility is 33 years old and has three Cereal and two Bars systems with each system feeding multiple packaging lines. Production systems across the site operate at high utilization rates, requiring focused coordination of sanitation, operations, and maintenance activities. The plant operates with a multi-skilled technician 4-crew, 12-hour shift team schedule.

The Plant Technical Manager (PTM) provides technical expertise and leadership to achieve plant and business objectives. The PTM leads a team of 24 individuals (15 direct and 9 indirect reports) and is accountable for core engineering and reliability capabilities: Projects, Controls, Systems, Environmental, Reliability, and the storeroom. This role supports major capital projects across the site and ensures Platform Teams have the resources and solutions necessary to improve safety, quality, and performance.

The PTM reports directly to the Plant Manager and has a dotted-line functional engineering reporting relationship to Central Engineering at world headquarters.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Leadership

  • Develop a site strategic plan encompassing technical staff development, capital investment, general competencies, and system/technology improvements
  • Coach, mentor, and develop plant technical resources
  • Manage external technical relationships with contractors and vendors
  • Serve as an integral member of the senior plant leadership team, driving plant strategy and culture
  • Provide technical leadership and ensure site compliance with EPA and OSHA requirements, collaborating with designated functional experts
  • Provide site leadership to maximize/optimize capital assets and site utilization, and lead safety initiatives in technical areas
  • Ensure compliance with GMI Financial Policies & Procedures
  • Understand infrastructure, utility, and facility capacity limitations

Capital Planning & Execution

  • Develop short- and long-term capital investment plans for the facility and be accountable for the planning and execution of all projects
  • Oversee the site's capital investment process (standards, project management, capital approval, etc.)
  • Manage site cash flow and meet Global Engineering expectations
  • Steward GMI capital, ensuring the investment strategy aligns with business needs and mitigates plant risks

Vertical Start-Up/Continuous Improvement/Manufacturing Excellence

  • Develop and support strategies integrating Vertical Start-Up (VSU), Continuous Improvement, and Manufacturing Excellence methodologies into the Master Plan
  • Provide leadership in applying Manufacturing Excellence principles to achieve business objectives
  • Provide site leadership for technical solutions to operational problems (systems optimization, debottlenecking, troubleshooting)
  • Be accountable for the strategy, design, and implementation of control systems and manufacturing information systems

Maintenance & Reliability

  • Coach and develop the Maintenance and Facilities Manager to integrate Maintenance into Manufacturing Excellence. Provide strategic support for maintenance programs, including tool and resource development, personnel selection, training, and development. Integrate Maintenance into the broader plant technical community strategy
  • Ensure that budget management and HMM targets align with site goals

Early Career Development

  • Support Early Career Development, ensuring the needs of new program members are met

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a related field with applicable experience or extensive relevant work experience
  • 7+ years of technical experience in project engineering, systems or process engineering, facilities management, or a technical discipline in a manufacturing environment, including maintenance experience
  • Strong track record of engineering aptitude, application of engineering principles, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership skills, including experience leading others in projects or programs
  • Understanding of and experience interacting with multiple business functions (Quality Control, Purchasing, Distribution, Human Resources, Finance, and especially Operations)
  • Ability to identify potential business solutions using broad, cross-functional thinking to foster innovation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience directly leading maintenance teams
  • Experience directly leading a team of engineers
  • Knowledge of and experience with manufacturing improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, TPM, Continuous Improvement, Manufacturing Excellence, Lean Manufacturing)

Salary Range



The salary range for this position is $124200.00 - $186400.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
