Job title: Instrument & Electrical Maintenance Technician

Situation in organization

Reports to Operations & Maintenance Manager

This position reports to the Operations & Maintenance Manager in the St Charles Maintenance Department.

Job dimensions
  • 40% Participates as a member of the Maintenance Team as an Instrument & Electrical specialist.
    • Participates in daily maintenance execution meeting and "Safety Toolbox" discussion.
    • Completes assigned work order tasks outlined in the I&E schedule.
    • Perform diversified electrical and electronic instrumentation duties. Electrical duties would include preventive maintenance of motors and other electrical apparatus, switchgear, MCCs, Variable Frequency Motor drives, electrical distribution and power panels
    • Use a variety of hand and power tools, test and diagnostic meters as well as electronic instrument calibration devices. Additionally the applicant would have experience in operating forklifts and/or aerial equipment.
    • Perform electro/mechanical skills including, but not limited to electrical troubleshooting and repair of production machines and related apparatus.
    • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance, calibration and service. Can read and interpret One-line drawings, electrical/electronic schematics and related drawings/diagrams. Company, Local and National Electrical Code (NEC) knowledge is needed.
    • Source and purchase Instrumentation and electrical parts as needed.
    • Provide support to Automation Engineer to resolve Instrumentation issues with the DCS
    • Update and modify Instrumentation and Electrical Procedures as necessary.
    • Supports and performs assigned instrument and electrical tasks as required.
    • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with HSE procedures, rules, and regulations.
    • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical materials and publications.
  • 10% External I&E contract services.
    • Assists external I&E contract resources as needed (APCO, Fenwal, Alabama Scale, Emerson-Rosemount, etc.).
    • Supports external controls contract service personnel as required while performing tasks on site.
  • 35% Responsible for day-to-day calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the following instrument and electrical systems:
    • Pressure, flow, level, temperature, and pH instrumentation.
    • Environmental monitoring systems such as the thermal oxidizer, opacity monitors, and flares.
    • Packaging equipment
    • Wireless telemetry system
    • Electrical transmission and distribution systems including 115 kV line, switches, gangswitches, transformers, switchgear, and motor control centers (MCCs).
    • Complete Safety Critical PMs assigned to monitor compliance, troubleshoot malfunctions for cause and correction.
    • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
    • Perform regular preventive maintenance on equipment and plant facilities and update maintenance records and equipment history.

    • Action items resulting from Incidents
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and off hours. Perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during planned outages. Will be part of an on call rotation.
Activities
  • The I&E Technician will interact with other disciplines such as safety, environmental, production, administrative, shift leaders, process technicians, control technicians, engineers, designers, other mechanics, I&E technicians, planner/scheduler, etc., to accomplish the above job dimensions.

  • The context and environment for this position will be plant-wide.

Accountabilities

The I&E Technician will be responsible for the following:

1) participating and passing regulatory and plant-specific HSE training,

2) Arriving to work on time, remaining on the job as per schedule and as directed by maintenance supervision, off time as per schedule and directed by maintenance supervision,

3) Adhere to all health, safety and environmental requirements and 4) meet expectations with respect to job dimensions, activities and accountability expectations.

Qualifications/experience required

  • Must have a technical certification in either industrial electrical/instrument/control/HVAC systems.
  • Must have annual OSHA-approved CPR training.
  • Minimum 5-years related experience and/or 2-years of college/trade school in addition to High School Diploma.
  • Proficient with standard Microsoft Office products (Word, Access, Excel).
  • Proficient user of plant specific software (CMMS, PI).
  • Successful completion of aptitude and skills assessment, troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work well with other departments critical; must be self-motivated and able to work well in a team environment.
  • Good oral, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver's license with proficient driving skills and an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)
