Job Description

The world of finance moves fast. At FIS, we're faster. Our teams are empowered to learn, grow, and make an impact-in their careers and communities. We deliver innovation that advances the way the world pays, banks and invests. If you want to grow personally and professionally, we'd like to know: Are you FIS?

NOTE: This position will be hybrid (3 days onsite) for candidates who are located within commutable distance from our FIS Office locations throughout the US.

About the role:

As a DigitalData Solutions Architect, you will define, design, and enable data architectures that support modern digital platforms. You won't just be making technical decisions-you'll be setting the strategic direction for scalable, high-performance, API-driven data solutions that power digital banking, fintech, and customer-facing applications.

You will be the driving force behind real-time, distributed data architectures, ensuring data is structured, accessible, and optimized for business capabilities. Your leadership will guide engineering teams and influence stakeholders across the organization, ensuring alignment on best practices and long-term success.

We're looking for visionary architects-leaders who understand how to design and scale modern data platforms. If that's you, apply now. Let's build something transformative.

About the Team:

FIS Digital Technology is on a mission to build the future of financial experiences-faster, smarter, and more connected. We are moving beyond legacy architectures and embracing modern, scalable, and event-driven data ecosystems to support cutting-edge digital solutions. This isn't just about keeping pace-it's about leading the transformation of financial technology. And we need forward-thinking architects to help drive it.

Data is the backbone of modern digital experiences, and at FIS, we're redefining how financial data is structured, accessed, and optimized. Our API-first, cloud-native platform is transforming the way digital applications consume and interact with data, ensuring real-time, secure, and scalable solutions that power next-generation experiences.

What you will be doing:

This isn't just another architecture role-it's an opportunity to redefine how digital platforms consume and interact with data. You'll be:

  • Shaping an API-first, event-driven data ecosystem that powers real-time, high-performance digital experiences.

  • Architecting scalable, cloud-native data solutions that drive innovation in financial technology.

  • Guiding engineering teams and influencing data strategy, ensuring long-term scalability and resilience.

  • Delivering real business impact-not just designing systems, but ensuring they are built, adopted, and optimized for success.

  • Architect the Future of Data-Driven Digital Experiences - Design and implement scalable, resilient, and event-driven data solutions that power real-time digital interactions.

  • Champion API-First & Cloud-Native Data Strategies - Ensure data architectures align with modern cloud-native principles, security best practices, and API-driven ecosystems.

  • Define Data Governance Framework & Security Standards - Establish governance models, access control mechanisms, and security frameworks to ensure responsible data management.

  • Optimize for Real-Time Data Access - Design operational data stores (ODS), caching strategies, and messaging pipelines to enable high-performance data consumption.

  • Lead the Evolution from Legacy to Modern Data Architectures - Drive data migrations and modernize legacy databases into cloud-native, distributed architectures, leveraging Modern Data Architecture principles.

  • Standardize & Scale Data Architecture Best Practices - Establish reusable frameworks, reference architectures, and data management patterns that support digital applications.

  • Develop Reference Architectures for Data Capabilities - Define data-related technical capabilities and best practices to support solution architects and engineering teams.

  • Drive Developer-First Enablement - Collaborate with platform engineering teams to build scalable, reusable data access layers and API-driven data services.

  • Establish Cloud-Based Integration & Data Movement Patterns - Define patterns for Data Fabric, Data Mesh, and Event Streaming to optimize data movement across the cloud.

  • Ensure Performance, Resilience & Observability - Define strategies for data availability, consistency, and observability to ensure robust and efficient data flows.

  • Collaborate Across Disciplines - Partner with product teams, solution architects, and engineering leads to ensure data solutions meet business objectives.

  • Mentor & Influence - Provide technical leadership, guiding teams to adopt best practices in modern data architecture, governance, and optimization.

What you will need:

  • 8+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or solution architecture, with a focus on real-time digital applications.

  • Deep expertise in event-driven, API-based, and distributed data architectures for high-performance applications.

  • Strong knowledge of data modeling, structured data access, and domain-driven data design to enable business capabilities.

  • Proven experience designing scalable, resilient, and high-availability data solutions, leveraging ODS, in-memory caching, and messaging architectures.

  • Expertise in Data Governance Frameworks, access controls, and compliance best practices.

  • Hands-on experience in migrating legacy data systems to cloud-native, scalable data architectures.

  • Strong grasp of modern authentication and authorization models, including OAuth, OpenID Connect, and role-based access control (RBAC).

  • Proficiency in SQL, NoSQL, and hybrid data models, with the ability to optimize for different application needs.

  • Familiarity with DevSecOps principles, ensuring security, compliance, and automation in data solutions.

  • Ability to educate, influence, and align solution architects and engineering teams on data architecture best practices.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, capable of driving strategic discussions and ensuring adoption of best practices.

  • Experience in fintech, SaaS, or large-scale consumer-facing digital platforms is highly preferred.

  • Self-starter with a strategic mindset, low ego, and a passion for innovation in data architecture.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.

Added bonus if you have:

  • Knowledge of Fintech or finance industry.

  • Knowledge if FIS products and services.
