Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin Clinical Trials Institute (UW CTI) is a partnership between the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) and UW Health. It supports clinical research professionals, investigators, and participants to advance discovery and research in the prevention, detection, and treatment of disease to help improve the health of individuals, families, and communities across Wisconsin and beyond. Our exceptionally talented workforce provides care, support, and information to clinical trials participants; resources, training, and guidance to research professionals; and opportunities for industry partners to advance groundbreaking medical research.

The Clinical Trials Accountant will perform general accounting duties, following generally accepted accounting principles and procedures. They will track and review the financial transactions related to clinical trials, ensuring the costs align with budgets and agreements. They will also collaborate with research staff, working closely to ensure they are up-do-date on the financial aspects of their projects, may assist in forecasting or budgeting and will ensure that all financial records are accurate.

This position will require strong time management abilities with a proven capacity to work both independently and as part of a team. Skilled at handling multiple projects simultaneously, paying close attention to details, and continuously seeking opportunities to enhance processes.


Responsibilities:
Works directly with principal investigator and research staff to budget, monitor expenditures, and reconcile financial data for sponsored programs. May directly process and/or approve accounting transactions such as cost transfers, procurement, sub award management, and financial processing related to sponsored project management. May review and approve transactions on behalf of an intermediate unit or center.

  • 20% Assists principal investigators with financial management of sponsored program budgets and directs day-to-day fiscal transactions
  • 30% Prepares and processes financial reporting and/or invoicing information
  • 15% Provides expertise and advice related to procurement and allowable charges
  • 25% Reviews financial expenditures for accuracy on sponsored grants and contracts
  • 10% Contribute to CTI fiscal process improvement initiatives as requested

Education:

Preferred
Associate's Degree or Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance


Qualifications:

Required:
- At least 2 years of finance/accounting experience, preferably in a clinical research or university setting

Preferred:
- Experience working with complex automated accounting systems and processes


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

The starting salary for the position is $65,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Additional Information:

University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship. The selected applicant will be responsible for ensuring their continuous eligibility to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the United States, a lawful permanent resident, a foreign national authorized to work in the United States without the need of an employer sponsorship) on or before the effective date of appointment.
