As a key member of the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President, the Assistant Provost plays a vital role in academic operations, faculty hiring compliance, and strategic university initiatives. Reporting directly to the Provost, this position provides expert counsel to vice provosts, deans, academic department heads, and university leaders while ensuring smooth administrative operations.

Responsibilities
Faculty Compliance & Academic Hiring
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures in faculty searches and appointments.
  • Review offer letters and role statements for compliance.
  • Deliver training on academic policies.

University Document Review & Approvals
  • Oversee academic hiring, leave requests, travel approvals, and budget expenditures.
  • Manage compliance for faculty-related approvals.

Strategic Projects & Administrative Leadership
  • Lead special projects, including academic enterprise restructuring.
  • Represent the Provost's Office in strategic committees.
  • Organize key university events such as the Faculty Awards Ceremony and assist with the USU Commencement.

Committee Engagement & University Representation
  • Serve on university-wide committees, such as Policy, Space Management, Classroom Utilization, and Academic Calendaring.
  • Act as a liaison for key administrative initiatives.
  • Facilitate the Dual Career Assistance (DCA) program for the academic enterprise.

Office Management & Leadership
  • Oversee administrative operations, staff supervision, and office expenditures.
  • Provide leadership to ensure efficiency, professionalism, and alignment with university goals.
  • Respond to inquiries from campus, state, and public communities, advising stakeholders on a variety of matters.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or a related field + 8 years of experience (or equivalent combination).
  • Exceptional skills in data analysis, leadership, strategic planning, and communication.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in higher education administration.
  • Familiarity with USU systems (Banner, ServiceNow, Microsoft Office) and university policies.
