Job Summary:

Under the direction and supervision of the CAO, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, this position will serve as a key member of the Department's finance team. The position will manage and engage in a variety of financial and/or accounting operations across a diverse set of funding sources. The position will be responsible for data management, financial reporting, auditing financials and navigating complex policies and procedures. The Financial Manager will assist with UW and UW Health budgeting, mission coding and faculty compensation as well as may supervise members of the team.


Responsibilities:
Guides financial and or accounting staff performing work in multiple finance functional areas and participates in day-to-day financial operations to ensure accuracy of financial transactions and reports, and/or supervises staff. Recommends and implements fiscal policies and advises on development of processes in support of efficient and compliant reporting.

  • 30% Plans, directs, and engages in financial and/or accounting operations for multiple areas; coordinates data management, budget preparation and management, and financial reporting efforts
  • 5% May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
  • 15% Identifies, verifies, and audits financial charges, credits, and authorizes payments
  • 10% Recommends, interprets, disseminates, and implements unit-focused fiscal policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with established rule, regulations and financial guidelines
  • 5% Participates in the development, maintenance, and monitoring of automated financial information systems
  • 10% Analyzes financial information and makes recommendations to unit leadership
  • 5% Serves as a subject matter expert to unit leadership regarding financial operations, status and reporting, and recommends process improvements
  • 20% Assists with faculty compensation and execution of the department compensation plan

Qualifications:

Required:
-Demonstrated professional experience with fiscal coordination.
-Knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting and auditing principles.
-Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
-Demonstration of interpreting and implementing fiscal policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with established rule, regulations and financial guidelines.

Highly Preferred:
-Fiscal experience at UW-Madison, UW Health or another academic medical center.

Demonstrate:
-Ability to participate as an effective team member by contributing to the efficient operation of the work unit.
-Ability to communicate in a clear, business-like and courteous manner with a diverse internal and external customer base.
-Excellent organizational skills and techniques.
-Ability to work independently, prioritize work duties and demonstrate effective time management skills in a fast-paced environment to meet various deadlines.


Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 80% - 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
