Job Description
The purpose of this position is to perform teaching duties and professional service for the College. This is accomplished by providing instruction as assigned; conducting and assessing instruction; developing and/or modifying curriculum; assisting students through academic advising; establishing, posting, and maintaining office hours; providing leadership for the development, growth, and support of the College and the assigned area; and undertaking professional community service. Other duties include supporting the mission, vision and values of the College and policies of the Board of Trustees; serving on various College committees, task forces and other groups; and participating in various official College ceremonies and meetings.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States, as the College does not offer Visa sponsorship for this position
Required Education
Master's degree in Engineering or a closely-related field, with 18 graduate credits in Engineering.
Required Experience
One year of full-time teaching or the equivalent adjunct teaching, preferably in a community college setting.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to teach courses such as Introduction to Engineering, Statics, Dynamics, Thermodynamics and Mechanics of Materials.
  • Ability to teach Calculus I and/or Calculus II.
  • Ability to incorporate MATLAB into Engineering and Mathematics instruction.
  • Demonstrated competency with current technology and learning management systems.
  • Experience in assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Ability to interact in a collegial and collaborative manner with faculty, students, and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with student-centered, evidence-based pedagogies in Engineering education.
  • Ability to create a culturally inclusive classroom experience.
  • Ability to incorporate a design project utilizing 3-D printing in the Introduction to Engineering course.

Hours per Week 40 - 100%
General Weekly Work Schedule
Full-time faculty teach 15 contact hours weekly in Fall and Spring semesters and hold a minimum of 5 office hours per week. Course schedule as assigned.
