About the Position

The Security Enterprise Architect provides the highest level of expertise for the design and implementation of technical controls to secure County technology resources including wireless/radio, telecommunications, software/applications, server infrastructure (physical & virtual), compute devices, and network infrastructure. The Security Enterprise Architect provides expert guidance for designing robust solutions that comply with all Maricopa County security policies, procedures, and standards. Additional responsibilities include supporting enterprise network and system risk analysis and consulting with operational departments on applicable security controls to ensure compliance with US, State, and local laws, codes, rules and regulations, and policies.

We Require

  • Seven years related IT work experience, which includes four years of experience in secure system design and two years of experience in a dedicated information security role at a senior level

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or another IT-related field

  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

We Also Value

  • Four years administering and securing any combination of:

    • Software development as SSDLC, DevSecOps

    • Cloud-native environments including AWS and/or Azure; Containerization

    • Virtual and/or Software defined Infrastructure

    • Databases and Applications including web-based, n-tier/SaaS

    • Identity and Access, for example Privleged Management Solutions, AD, SSO

    • Edge protection including: WAF, DDoS, Email Security

    • Data Security/Compliance with DLP solutions

    • Redundant and resilient systems

    • Network infrastructure including routers, switches

  • Experience in Enterprise Architecture

  • Personnel management and/or direct supervisory experience

  • Documentation of Process, Security Standards and Policy

    • Familiarity with common Security Frameworks

    • Zero Trust

  • At least one of the following certifications:

    • CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional)

    • CompTIA Security+

    • TOGAF (The Open Group Architectural Framework)

    • Information Systems Security Architecture Professional (ISSAP)

    • Other certification demonstrating competency in security architecture

Job Contributions

  • Align Information Security Architecture efforts with other Enterprise Architecture/ Information Management counterparts to ensure overall alignment of architecture components. Work closely with other functional area architects and security specialists to ensure adequate security solutions are in place throughout all IT systems and platforms to mitigate identified risks sufficiently, as well as to meet business objectives and regulatory requirements.

  • Formulate and conduct complex IT architecture assignments (designs, documentation, review, etc.) utilizing a wide range of professional techniques, industry knowledge, and independent reasoning to ensure and uphold data security and integrity. Evaluate and develop secure solutions, based on approved security architectures. Analyze business impact and exposure, based on emerging security threats, vulnerabilities, and risks.

  • Serve as a security expert in secure system design, application development, database design, network and/or platform (operating system) efforts. Provide guidance and leadership to assist project teams to comply with enterprise and IT security policies, industry regulations, and best practices.

  • Provide continuous improvement through review of existing IT systems, applications, and composition of standards, as well as new technologies, architectures, and security products that will support security requirements for the enterprise and its customers, business partners, and vendors.

  • Provide technical expertise and general operational and backup support to Information Security personnel.

  • Perform detailed analysis of potential threats and risk assessment results to identify, design, and implement appropriate security controls/solutions.

  • Participate in and provide high-level support to the County information security incident management and response program.

  • Direct supervision of Information Security Engineers, including but not limited to daily management, time keeping and approvals, and routine performance evaluations.

Working Conditions

The position can accommodate a mix of remote and in-office work depending on business needs. Work performed in a general office environment may require the ability to respond 24/7 as needed. The position may require travel to and from job-related locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles and/or private vehicles used on County business. The position may require exerting up to 10 lbs. occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time. The position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
