HJF is seeking a Scientific Director to serve as Director of a clinical or preclinical research program. This role is a scientific lead for this program and Develops scientific and additional funding opportunity strategies.

This position will be in support of Surgical Critical Care Initiative.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.


Responsibilities

  • Plans and directs research initiatives focused on exploring emerging technologies and conducting experiments to apply scientific theories and processes in practical settings.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates procedures for the Center in the areas of molecular biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, data management, computing infrastructure, clinical research, and product development as it relates to assays, modelling and software development for clinical decision support tools.
  • Supervises and performs complex analytical work and statistical modelling using appropriate statistical/bioinformatic methods to identify disease-related changes.
  • Supervises and conducts analyses and interpretation of data from large genomic and proteomic datasets.
  • Ensures the scientific integrity of the Center through the application of best practices in scientific research, molecular biology/assays, data management, analytics, and computational sciences, as well as implementation of quality assurance and quality control systems, SOPs, and GCP.
  • Develops strategies for future funding opportunities.
  • Develops scientific materials, including abstracts and manuscripts, and effectively presents research findings and advancements. Participates in activities to promote the Center at both internal and external events.
  • Collaborates with other multidisciplinary teams both within HJF, USU, and external institutions, as well as the Center's leadership team.
  • May include budgetary responsibility.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T3 Secret clearance.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct Supervisor: Direct authority to make decisions on the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, starting salaries and merit increases; conduct employee performance evaluations and directs work activities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral Degree- MD or PhD
  • More than 10 year experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of complex clinical, preclinical and scientific procedures and experiments; ability to take initiative and develop new protocols; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $144,700-$187,500. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
