General Duties:

Installs, tests, programs, and maintains substation, field metering, and SCADA equipment. Utilizes computer-based applications and various electrical tools to program, commission, and service control system equipment such as PLC's, RTU's, HMI's, Automation Controllers, and other SCADA system devices required for company operations. Works with Transmission & Distribution Control Centers to program, troubleshoot, and verify field metering and Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) operations that provide data to various EMS/SCADA Systems. Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Required Qualifications:



  • Associate of science degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Five + years of experience with control system equipment such as RTU's, Telemetering and SCADA systems.
  • Must have excellent attendance and safety record.
  • Must have knowledge of electronic circuit theory, currents, and voltages.
  • Must have knowledge of test equipment and procedures.
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access).
  • Must have knowledge of RTUs, PLC's, HMI's and SCADA equipment.
  • Must have strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
  • Must have a valid California driver's license.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of computer literacy.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to attain and maintain authorizations and switching qualifications.
  • Must be willing to travel to remote sites and perform equipment maintenance, and work in an office environment.
  • Must be willing to operate/use a bucket truck when needed.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to absorb formal training and schooling.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Prefer experience with utility 3 phase power systems & interpreting electrical diagrams and schematics.
  • Prefer experience with IP networking fundamentals and serial communications.
  • Prefer experience with SCADA protocols (Modbus, DNP3.0, SEL, IEC-61850/MMS, Ethernet/IP)
  • Prefer experience with IEC 61131-3 architecture or basic programming languages.
  • Experience with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories RTAC's is extremely desirable.


This is a Union Represented position - Represented by Local IBEW 465.
