Job Summary

Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. Recommends changes to policies and established procedures that affect the department. Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of various factors, including an understanding of industry best practices. Implements department programs and ensures department goals and objectives are achieved.

Educate, Train, Coach, and Manage staff involved in cleaning patient rooms, nursing units, surgical areas, administrative offices, laboratory areas, waiting areas, and public restrooms using various cleaning chemicals and disinfectants. Follows established infection-control practices to ensure a clean and safe environment and other regulations. We are designingg, implementing, and maintaining an effective training program for approximately 700 team members in different shifts and locations, including supervisors and principal supervisors. This role requires innovative thinking, dynamic execution, continuous communication, and thorough follow-up. This job requires some traveling to other facilities under UCSF.

Department Description

The Hospitality Services Department provides housekeeping services, floor care, carpet care, compost, recycling, solid waste removal, and biohazardous waste removal at UCSF locations, as well as satellite UCSF clinics throughout the Bay Area if needed. The department aims to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Working knowledge of health care custodial regulatory standards and requirements including knowledge of codes and policies governing biohazardous and hazardous waste.
    Demonstrated knowledge of human resources management. Ability to manage staff with diverse skills and expertise.
  • 5+ years of relevant progressive experience
  • Ability to develop and implement training programs that meet regulatory health and safety requirements.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present information to diverse audiences.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships and work collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fiscal management including budget development.
  • Ability to implement process improvement strategies and quality improvement programs.
  • Ability to prepare monthly reports on training activities and statistics.
  • Compile, review, and present supervision rounds forms to the Department Head.
  • Coordinate and compile results from QA and Infection Control monitoring programs and present materials at relevant meetings.
  • 5+ years of relevant progressive experience

Preferred Qualifications


  • CHESP - Certified Health Care Environmental Services professional certification
  • Bloodborne pathogen and sharps disposal training.
