Overview
The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics.
In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Senior Program Coordinator for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. Reporting to the Director of Global Engagement, the Senior Program Coordinator is responsible for cultivating an inclusive global environment associated with increased study abroad activity for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. The position is responsible for a broad range of duties and must demonstrate an advanced knowledge in advising and program development in accordance with best professional practices. The position is the main point of contact for SEBS students interested in studying abroad and helps them identify appropriate study abroad program fit in accordance with academic goals.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Partners with the Office of Academic Programs (OAP) on all aspects of study abroad credit evaluation and application to students' transcripts.
  • Advises incoming international exchange students in partnership with the Rutgers Global Study Abroad (RGSA) advisors, the OAP, and with the individual academic departments.
  • Identifies curricular pathways in collaboration with faculty and Undergraduate Program Directors, and partners with the Dean of Curriculum Integration at the RGSA office to broaden STEM related programming.
  • Manages all campus partnerships with universities and program providers including marketing, recruitment, advising, and new program development.
  • Hosts annual events independently and in partnership with units across Rutgers to promote study abroad programming.
  • Manages the annual Going Global study abroad scholarship and other scholarships in accordance with office strategic planning.
  • Partners with faculty across the school to develop and implement advising tools that meet the needs of the SEBS student body and address the continued growth of high impact learning opportunities in a global context both at home and abroad.
  • Develops and executes a data management and assessment plan for all new and on-going study abroad programming with regular reporting to the Director of Global Engagement.
  • Represents the office in meetings when the Director is not available.
  • Administrative support as necessary including financial management and record maintenance.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in a related field such as higher education or international education.


Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • General knowledge of study abroad visa procedures, data assessment, and application tools.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through a global lens.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to best practices in the field of international education, comparative education, international relations, cross-cultural education, or related field(s) which illustrate intercultural competency.
  • Experience working with communities from diverse backgrounds and cultures in an academic setting.
  • The position must possess excellent inter-personal, written, and verbal communication skills and should be well versed in advising a diverse student body employing skills that engage students from a variety of different cultural, economic, linguistic, and racial backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred Master's degree in International Education, Higher Education, Counseling, Student Affairs or other student services/cross-cultural related field and 5-8 years of experience independently advising students on study abroad experiences
  • Experience with assessment and data management in a study abroad office
  • Speaking skills in a foreign language, specifically Chinese, Spanish, and Korean
  • Proficiency on both Apple and PC operating systems and comfort managing website development

Equipment Utilized

  • The position will be required to use Microsoft Suites and should be skilled in using Excel.
  • The position will be responsible for developing an assessment plan for study abroad and should be familiar with Microsoft 365 tools and applications.
  • The position should also have general knowledge of using social media and a knowledge of Canva or other marketing software tools.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Will include some night and weekend hours. May require domestic and international travel to attend conferences or site visits.
  • Should be able travel throughout campus for different events and campus fairs.
  • May need to move some light boxes for campus events weighing no more than 25lbs.
