Position Summary

Perform routine and preventative maintenance at the University campus, with a strong focus on plumbing systems, and pools. Address service requests from faculty, staff, and students, and complete assigned work orders from facilities supervisors. Responsibilities include inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and minor installations to support safe and reliable operations across multiple campus buildings.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Service Calls & Emergency Response

* Provide responsive, customer-focused service. Prioritize and complete work orders efficiently.

* Assess issues and determine when escalation or specialized support is needed.

General Maintenance

* Assist with building systems and duties as needed, including basic carpentry, painting, light HVAC and electrical troubleshooting.

* Provide event setup support when requested.

Plumbing & Water Systems

* Perform advanced plumbing maintenance, including reading schematics and as-built drawings, identifying isolation valves, and making repairs.

* Install, maintain, and repair water lines, drains, valves, faucets, toilets, and related fixtures.

* Perform copper pipe sweating, PVC and PEX work, and snake clogged drains.

* Conduct preventative inspections of plumbing systems and fixtures.

Pool & Fountain Maintenance

* Inspect and maintain circulation systems, pumps, filters, heaters, timers, and chlorinators for pools and fountains.

* Monitor and adjust water chemistry to meet health and safety standards.

* Conduct seasonal opening and closing procedures, including winterization and start-up.

* Troubleshoot mechanical and water quality issues.

* Keep logs of maintenance routines and water chemistry results.

Working Conditions

* Require standing, bending, climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working on ladders or at heights.

* Work may occur indoors and outdoors, in varying weather and temperature conditions.

* Exposure to pool chemicals, noise, and mechanical equipment is expected.

* May be required to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts for emergencies.

Required Qualifications

* High school diploma or equivalent.

* Valid Class E driver's license (or equivalent from another state).

* Must be available 24/7 for emergencies and willing to work overtime.

Preferred Qualifications

Technical training or certification in plumbing or aquatic facility operations preferred. Five years or more of experience in facilities or water systems maintenance, preferably with pools and/or fountains.

Pre-Employment Screening

Position requires background checks and other applicable pre-employment checks.

Benefits for this position are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement with IUOE Local 148. Union employees receive health, retirement, and tuition benefits, as well as sick time and paid vacation.

Hourly wage is $32.23 per hour.
